Help, I think I did my daughter a great disservice.

I will preface this by saying I have no knowledge when it comes to softball.

My daughter is 12, 5'1 1/2", 96 pounds, all lower body. She has been swinging a 31" 18oz aluminum bat (drop 13). I didn't know any better when I bought the thing, it was for her to use in an in-house league to see if she even liked the sport.

Fast forward a few months, she killed it in the in-house league and found her way onto a 14u travel team. No, they did not keep everyone.

She needs a new bat, her cheap aluminum bat is not going to cut it going forward. As I'm looking around, soliciting advice from people, they are recommending a 31/21 drop 10. Im really worried about what going from a drop 13, to a drop 10 is going to do to her. Should I consider starting with a drop 11 for this season, then moving her up to a -10 for next? From what I have been reading, it seems like she should already be at at a -10. I think I unknowingly did her a great disservice by having her use the -13.

I know mechanics and a proper swing are the most important thing for her to learn right now. She has a hitting coach now, who says the bat doesn't matter at this point, however I would rather move her up to a more appropriately sized bat vs being behind the 8 ball going forward.

What the heck do I do?

Since she is still crafting her swing, is moving from the -13 to a -10 going to mess her up that bad? Or because she is relatively new and still learning, it's better to just rip the band aid off and go for it?

By the way Demarini's seem to swing light, nice balanced bat.

That's what I hear. I have heard the same about the Louisville Slugger LXT. Problem is, I'm not finding any locally in her size to swing. We found a Xeno, but that thing swung heavy. Everything else is a 32" or larger.

Try a used cf5,6,7,8,9 etc... whatever you can find a good deal on...check eBay...that way she'll have a good bat while she's learning what she likes and you haven't spent and arm and a leg. My 11yr old beats up a used cf5 31/21 in batting practice and has a 30/20 cfx and 31/21 on the way for games.

Went to buy the new Demarini balanced 31-21. The sporting good store let us hit with them and we bought the new LXT (not plus). The rep said all Demarini s are end loaded and said hold the barrel and you can feel how lite it is. I couldn't tell to be honest but My DD hit much better with the LXT.
