junkball,

Given a couple years experience, Mike Piazza would have been one of those MLB baseball players who could have transitioned, and given himself the highest opportunity for success at the men's major level.

One of the special power hitters who understood the mechanics needed to consistancy drive pitches through the high strike zone. If you remember Jim Thome, he was much the same, albeit a longer swing. Mike was so compact & efficient to contact and generated such tremendous core torque. Even more impressive was his ability to elongate the core & adapt the hand path to catch up with those pitches. Produced incredible bat speed. He was also one of those guys who understood the relationship between the upper hand and it's rotation to contact relative to keeping a bat barrel at the hand level or above. +1 vs. a men's side rise.

Because he was so compact and kept his hands inside (arms & hands close to core) so well, I'm sure he could have hit the drop with success. Especially inside.

:)

Piazza was said to have spent a lot of time in the cage during his HS years. I think he was a relative of Lasorda. He was the man in the mid-late 90's.
