So my DD is struggling with her front foot.
She went to an open stance about a year ago now.
Reasons for it was to help with front foot flying open and to see the ball better.
Well we are seeing the ball better but the front foot issue really hasn't changed. I will say 85% of the time it's coming open more.
That being said as a 7th grader playing varsity she batted .321 this past season.
She hits a lot to right field I believe it's because her foot is coming open and causes everything else to also.
Below are some gifs. The first 2 are games the last is b.p. with me.(please feel free to laugh at me behind the fence cowering lol)
As you will see in the video game time she steps out b.p. stride in pretty well.

How is her stride when she takes BP when somebody is throwing, either windmill or just front toss? With the machine the element of reading pitch location, speed
etc is sort of eliminated.

And fear of getting hit with a pitched ball.

That too..:D

OP do you have a video of her swing before she opened up her stance? Was she bailing
badly, e.g. did it look like she was afraid of getting hit??

Yes I have a video of that also. I will find it and post it.
But to sender you other questions
Yes she was bailing before we switched it
Front toss no issue side toss no issue.
She does not like the machine doesn't trust it. (So she says) but will get in without a helmet.
Let me find the videos. Or pictures

Not here.
The front toss/machine your DD shifts THEN swings. I would like to see shift AND swing. Arm swinger, doesn't seem to use her lower body. Just goes through the 'motion' of using her lower body but, doesn't seem to get any thing out of the lower body. If I had my choice I would take the 'staying open' swing. Needs to take her 'open stance'(SNF) lower body coil and continue with a FBC inward towards the plate(close off).
Is your DD worried about getting hit with a pitched ball in a game?

Here is a video of before the switch

Now her is a video of front toss windmill in b.p.
No bail.

One more b.p. video

Hope that helps

In my opinion (take it for what its worth) in her old stance she is flying out/bailing because she isn't creating any separation/resistance of her upper body against her lower body movements. She is powering the swing with
her arms and not her lower body/hips/core. See the end of this recent thread:

https://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-hitting-technical/31800-swing-help-7.html#post440011

In her new stance that problem is still there plus now it seems as if she is not giving herself enough time to stride in as she is reading the pitch.

Regardless of her stance, these two drills may help with the "arm powering the swing" issues

Agreed..but in both of those case the front shoulder stay "closed" because of they are resisting against their hip turn. Whether or not
that hip turn occurs from an "open" position or not is a style thing no?
