DD swing is pretty good with some timing issues. A few buddies that are college coaches have said for an recently 11 year old her swing is very good.

Problem- she has started stepping with her back foot towards the pitcher and then a pretty good swing. I've never seen this before. She is moving towards the pitcher. She doesn't do it except against live pitching. She never takes a half swing and when on drills the ball for her ability. Causes timing issues and balance issues and can't get out of the way of any pitch.

Guess I would need to see a video to comment more clearly.

Good hitters do not stay back ..... they go forward.

Do you mean her initial move is that she takes a step forward with the back foot? Or is her back foot is slipping as she gets to contact? Totally different issues.

I agree with FFS, post a video.

I coach her team and do not have any game video. She doesn't do it in the cage.

She picks her back leg up and steps about 3 inches forward and then swings. Does a solid job with turning her back knee but it's the step before that I've never seen anyone do period that's not scared of the ball.

As long as it isn't causing any timing issue I wouldn't worry about it to much. I have seen what your describing.

DD was kinda in a slump. The last two weeks she has started stepping with her back foot again and crushing the ball. Doesn't do it in drills. New coach this fall looked at me and said do you see that and she crushed a double. What would you do? Seems to help her timing, crazy.

Simply have to see it before passing judgement if this is some kind of timing mechanism that all happens before she gets set for the pitch aka "happy feet" while not recommended as long as it is all before getting set and beginning what we would call the swing I would put it in the style category. If it is actually occur during some phase of the swing it would be an absolute stop what you are doing and fix now thing, you simply can't have a mechanically sound swing with your back foot moving before it is supposed to.

If it's not broken, fix it until it is! ;)

As others have mentioned, it's really best to have video for diagnosing swing issues.
