hey guys..

what do you think of this 10U swing.. she is hitting the ball really well, so we really don't want to mess with it that much.. if you have some pointers that we can work on that would be appreciated.. she is an aggressive hitter so she looks to hit whatever she can

So Cal
The video I'm seeing is really low quality, and it's hard to make out enough of the details of her mechanics to be able to offer any input.

Better quality video. Thanks.

She looks like a strong young player, and I like her aggressiveness, but she has a pretty severe bat drag issue (rear elbow ahead of the hands, dragging the bat to contact) that will make things increasingly challenging as she faces better pitching. I suspect that on lower pitches, she shows a DBSF issue (Drops the Darrel to the level of the ball and Swings Flat). It is certainly possible to generate very good bat speed with this swing pattern, which results in big hits when she has enough time to complete the pattern. However, this type of hand path is way too long to be effective against good pitching.

I agree.

Need to think of long term goals if DD wants to continue to play at or into higher level softball.... HS, college.......

When your DD has enough time to complete her pattern not the correct pattern. That is maybe something you should be 'messing' with.
Again JMHO.

Yes!! Not "messing" with a currently successful swing is fine if your players have reached the highest level in the game they will ever play. Personally, I attempt to help players build swings that will be successful in the future.

fairly typical dump the barrel then back elbow leads hands. actually better lower half than most at this stage although she does not quite coil enough more of a get on top of rear leg type move her position at foot plant is not terrible just see if she can pick the tip of the barrel up a little then keep it up as she initiates the swing.

I agree.. I seen the hands and the flat swing.. you are right with 10U you can create a lot of power with the level of pitching. I just wanted to make sure you guys are seeing the same thing. I also noticed to try and get a better coil or separation. I also agree as in "messing".. I probably used the wrong word there.. I always feel you want to get it better and progress, or else its going to cause more issues in the future..

thanks guys

separation is not too bad just want more of a coil around motion versus put weight on back foot. For now my main focus would be swing plane then we can move on to other things.

Yes, what djcarter1966 stated....'put weight on back foot'. I would call 'sway' back but, need to learn to coil around as you go forward. I second the focus should be on 'swing plane'. I would suggest possible raising rear elbow but, not an absolute. Might help with not having the elbows leading the swing.
