My DD started with a new hitting instructor a few weeks ago a former college player with some accolades. Her swing has become more sound in just a few lessons. However I'm curious the first few lessons she used baseballs for about half the swings and then at this last lessons used just baseballs. Is this a teaching technique or is this just because she teaches at a baseball facility so baseballs are more plentiful. Any upside or downside to baseballs?

My DD's instructor uses baseballs for a lot of tee work and soft toss. i guess a smaller target can't hurt. He does not allow them to use her softball bat though. He has several shorter bats and wooden bats we use when doing drills with baseballs.

I use the baseball size TCB's and have a pitching machine for our batting cage that uses the hard foam/rubberish balls that are baseball size. Its the batting cage you can get at Dick's.

Not sure about a real baseball on a softball bat though. I would think it may not be good because I think the compression on the balls is different?

Not sure @Coresoftball might know best but I just would not do it. Is this from a machine or does she throw overhand or is this strictly tee work?

I would not take a lot of BP overhand its just training your eyes for a different trajectory.

The only thing besides softball I used were golf ball size whiffle balls for hand eye coordination...although I ACed for a coach that used the TCB mushy ball but they were softball size basically just so girls could take full swings and we would not have to chase ball since they would not go very far

While I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with trying to hit a ball of varying sizes, I would at least use half of the time or more hitting front toss with the same size ball as used in the game so you can get used to its unique spin and movement (i.e. a baseball thrown at 20 feet does not act the same as a softball thrown the same distance due to different drag, size, and spin rate of the two balls.)
