My DD's hitting instructor uses both softballs and baseballs. He incorporates both for tee work, side toss and front toss as well. My dd does use her regular bat and she has been seeing him for quite a while and we have had no detrimental effects on her bat. DD rarely strikes out swinging so I am a fan of HC's teaching technique.

I had a baseball coach in high school that did soft toss with bean seeds and we used a broom handle as a bat. Talk about developing hand eye coordination. It's not easy to hit a bean with a broom handle.

Using baseballs is very good. I even have some called cork balls that are the same size as a golf ball. They are hard to catch, though.
I can't imagine that a softball bat would dent, hitting baseballs off of a tee.
It helps to change up these drills, so that they are not the same old same old.

DD use to have a "swift stick" which was basically the size of a broom handle. I had a bottle of the yellow plastic BBs and used to get her to hit those. Should probably start doing it again because it has been a couple of years.
