DD's hitting has been off for a few weeks. I'd like to get her back on track before this weekend's tournament.

I'm going to try to get a better video tonight or tomorrow of her swing, but this is all I have recorded of her natural hitting. When I try to record her during practice she gets all loose and wobbly and does all sorts of weird stuff just to get me to stop.

Any tips you can give to improve her swing? Sorry about the fence being in the way...I wasn't the one recording lol

Sounds about right for that age...lol

As far as swing goes, she doesn't seem to use her lower half at all. In working with my DD's team which
is about this age (actually a bit younger 8U) it seems that the ones who don't stride have this issue more than the ones who do stride..of course
the ones who do stride typically don't use the lower half correctly so its pretty much a wash :p

Thanks y'all! DH has been trying to correct her footwork, and she listens when she's in the batting cage, but as soon as it's game time she resorts to this swing. I've also noticed that she doesn't follow through on most hits. She had a practice game last weekend and she was consistently hitting up the middle with line drive kinda hits, but they'd land in the grass a few feet into the outfield and just stop. They'd barely roll!

Very typical for this age. crouch over drop bat down and swings...I'm guessing you taught a no stride swing which is OK but I don't see any weight transfer or load very armsy swing.

All in all it's really hard to tell because of angle, distance and poor quality. She also seems hunched over and stiff in her approach needs to be more relaxed

Lol, DH taught her to stride, and she used to have a decent swing. But now she's convinced he doesn't know what he's talking about and refuses to listen to him. He even reminded her tonight at practice and she still never did . Her TB coaches aren't saying anything to her about it so she thinks her way is okay. Hopefully she'll see other people on here agree with her dad about her swing, lol.

I'd like to add that she started this about 3 weeks ago and you'd think she'd been swinging like this forever. Bad habits are soooo hard to break!

New video-should be better quality. Maybe not, lol. What would be the best angle to record from?

The stride/no-stride is just style issue really. All I was saying is it seems that for younger kids it is easier to transfer their weight if they do stride. Whether that weight transfer is done
properly is a different story. New video is much clearer and will be easier to dissect. I will let the more advanced posters do that but I will add that you may want to have a look at this video:

Much better angle....again this is a very typical Drop Barrel Swing Flat type motion. As weight comes down on her front foot her hands and bat have already flattened out and she just swings around her whole body.

The step or stride thing is style but you have to have weight transfer. Should plow back through some old thread on sequence but it needs work. I'm going to work on a quick pic that shows this so I can stop repeating myself all the time.
