Much better angle....again this is a very typical Drop Barrel Swing Flat type motion. As weight comes down on her front foot her hands and bat have already flattened out and she just swings around her whole body.

The step or stride thing is style but you have to have weight transfer. Should plow back through some old thread on sequence but it needs work. I'm going to work on a quick pic that shows this so I can stop repeating myself all the time.

Thank you! I have seen threads about DBSF, but I ignored them because I had no clue what that was! Lol, I'll definitely read them again!

Not sure if I like this pic set but its a first try. You see drastically different front leg action but the most important part start at pic 3 foot plant notice even though they got there very differently they look very similar...actually if you freeze frame almost any elite swing it's going to look very close to this. Things look a little different and not quite as similar as I thought but some of that is Josh hitting a belt high pitch while Laurens pitch is at her knees. Anyway notice how you never see the bat drop flat until right before it makes contact the pic before contact you see unbroken wrist and the ball is literally right off the frame as there bats flatten out.

Rdbass,

Could you make a gif from the video of the side view? This is a good example of the classic problems many suffer from and I want to take a closer look.

Thanks,
Shawn

CRay - One thing you will need to do to help your DD is to find someone who she is willing to take guidance from - whether it's you, your DH, or someone else. It will help her to know that the guidance she is getting isn't totally random guesses, but is based on a foundation of good information from someone who knows what they are talking about. If this is a process you and/or your DH are planning to take on, be dedicated to educating yourself. Staying ahead of her learning curve will be challenging. It's certainly possible that she may never listen to either of you (not uncommon at all), and an outside coach is the best avenue.

As for a different swings in the cage and in the box...this is COMPLETELY normal at this age. Hell, I have girls on my 12U TB team that still do that. A cage environment - especially if it's off a tee - reduces the variables and the anxiety involved with game hitting. Add those factors into the equation, and hitters tend to revert to whatever their baseline "normal" is. It can take a lot of work to get the two swings to be even vaguely similar. Buidling a better "normal" takes time. Reprogramming muscle memory isn't a quick-fix issue. Also...I suspect there is some sort of magic spell generated by drawing a chalk rectangle on the ground.

Add 'bat drag' to the list.

Have you ever seen anybody whose sequence is way off who doesn't have some degree of DBSF and bat drag? Honest question because I am wondering
if one just focuses on the proper sequence then the other stuff will fix itself e.g. with my DD instead of constantly harping on both not dumping the barrel
and making sure her hips fire before she starts to move her hands forward I could just work on the latter. It would be one less annoying thing
Dad is saying to her...

If you're asking me
if one just focuses on the proper sequence then the other stuff will fix itself
Most don't know the 'proper sequence', let alone teach it.
Besides learning and teaching the 'proper sequence'(which not everyone agrees on what the proper sequence should be or is).
I've been saying this for a long while. Stress keep the bat vertical during the 'load' and the over lap, launch or unload( what ever you want to call it). The flaws of DBSF & bat drag will go away.
I've been there and I still stress to my DD to keep the bat vertical/tipped.
Tip & Rip. Of course that's more to just a vertical bat but, it's a start in the right direction. Again JMHO.

This hitters 'hips fire' before her hands move forward. See what I mean about 'not everyone agrees on the 'proper sequence'.
Picture if the bat was held vertical during the 'loading' and over lapping/unloading. Wouldn't be that bad of a swing now, would it.
