Buddy of mine cleaning out basement and has a 33" / 25oz bat he asked if I wanted to buy. DD currently swings a 33" / 23oz bat but was wondering if I could use the -8 bat for hitting lessons and basement tee work. What are the pros and cons about using the -8 bat?

Cons? She might not go back to the old bat! DD uses a wood bat for at least a few swings in almost every practice. I think it's a great warm up and tends to promote a better swing.

The bat is a use CF4 33/25. I guess she could use it in games if it felt comfortable for her. Is a -8 bat common in fastpitch? Never really paid attention to this.

DD swings a 34" 26oz in games and likes it. She works with heavier wood bats and a 33" 30oz thunderstick for practice so the 26oz transition was easy. Let the hitter choose what they want for games but I think using heavier bats for tee work and practice helps build strength. I'm sure when she faces 65mph pitching she will go lighter.

I haven't thought about this but it makes sense. For our focus, I think the heavier bat promotes good load, sequence and fluid whip. It's too easy to fudge with lighter bats.

That's why we are going to see how Camwoods bat works this summer. We've used heavy bats in the past, but never a 45oz. It definitely helps with using your core better.

If she can get around on the pitching she is seeing with the -8, then let her give it a try in some games after she gets comfortable with it in the cage.
