I know this has probably been discussed a thousand times and was browsing the board but my DD is about 4'5 and weighs 68 pounds. She is a great contact hitter and has a stellar batting average. We are looking to buy her a new bat and thinking of a 30/19. Would most say that is good for a girl like her?

30/19 is probably a good choice based on her size. That said, she might also be able to handle a 31, if she's pretty strong.

Also. Welcome to DFP. Enjoy the ride! :)

Welcome. My DD was similar size, once they get past any need for -12 bat (9 and under) my advice is to go with the super popular 30/20 in something like a Xeno. It is something she can hit with now and for 1-2 yrs.

I think a 30/19 is too long and heavy for her. My DD has got 15# on her I am having a hard time transitioning her to a 29/18. I think a 28/17 would be best for her, but I would never go over 29/18.

I agree with Brian. I believe that there are way to many young girls swinging bats that are too big for them which causes many bad habits. My daughter will be 9 in two weeks, she is 4'-7" tall and weighs 75-80 lbs. swings a 29/18 Louisville Slugger LXT. The biggest issue that I personally see with the heavy bats that the girls we work with is casting of the hands.

A 29/18 sounds about right. It should last her for at least a season. See if you can borrow someone's 30/19 during practice to see how she does with it. 4' 5" and 68lbs is still on the small side.

I would avoid a Xeno for now. They have a more end-loaded feel to them. Also, I wouldn't buy a bat that she can grow into. At 68# she is obviously pretty young so any bat she can be using two years from now she doesn't need to be using now. Lastly, check out Eric's bat weight database in the equipment section. A -11 is rarely a -11 when it comes to multi piece composite bats.

According to the many available bat charts, she's a 29" to 30" max. At 68lbs, I would recommend a -12 or even -13. At her size (and likely young age) learning proper swing mechanics and bat control is more important than trying to swing a heavier bat. The ability to make more consistent and solid contact will also do wonders for her confidence.

Don't try to get a bat she can use for a couple years. Get one that fits and be prepared to upgrade almost every year while she grows fast and gets stronger. You don't have to spend a fortune to do it, there are many options to pick up good bats if you are willing to have last year's color scheme.
