I posted this on another website but wanted to post it here as well:

I went last night to listen to my friend Coach Gerry Glasco speak. Coach Glasco is a renown hitting coach and now coaches at Texas A&M in softball. I highly recommend attending one of his events if you ever get a chance. He uses video to demonstrate his point and some of the video of him working with his daughter is really good stuff. I met his daughter Geri Ann as well. What a nice young lady! She plays professionally now for the Akron Racers. Geri Ann was the Gatorade Player of the Year her senior year of high school and played collegiate ball at the University of Georgia and then at Oregon. They made a great team demonstrating live what was shown on the marked up video.

I got a lot of stuff from his speech and a lot of it reinforced what I coach. I do want to steal one thing from him and post it here. I hope he doesn't mind. He has his hitters do a lot of hitting off of tees but without balls. In fact, one thing he mentioned was that when a hitter is learning something and using a tee, when they hit the ball poorly, the flight of the ball can be embarrassing for them. So, he wants a hitter to be able to just clip the top of that tee. His daughter demonstrated a lot of swings and the way she clicked the top of that tee was impressive. You could tell she did that her whole life.

I'll wrap up by saying that I think it is necessary and good to understand that a hitting coach needs to be a life time learner. Coach Glasco pointed out some stuff he used to coach and then why he made changes in what he believed. I think that this was so beneficial for those coaches in attendance. For me, this presentation reinvigorated me and helps me know that I have my player on the right path. Hearing this stuff from someone else so successful does that.

Coach, if you're reading this, I had a great time last night. BB was upset that she didn't get to go but I didn't know I could bring her and so ... The next time you are in my area, we'll both be there.

So Cal
Good stuff, CB. Thanks for sharing!

The point about hitting the tee with no ball is really good. Most of the time, the results of the ball flight - good or bad - are used to judge the quality of the swing. Especially with a tee in a cage, it's pretty easy to hit shots that appear impressive, but with swing poor mechanics. When working on a specific mechanical adjustment, it makes a lot of sense (to me) to spend some time grooving the new feeling before introducing the ball. I will also be stealing this from Coach Glasco. :)

We were there too! I would say without a doubt it was one the best camps that Emma has ever been too. A lot of girls there, but the video session really breaks down a hitting sequence and shows them what they need to be doing. I even learned a thing or two lol. Darrell, on the way home Emma said that she noticed a lot of you taught her Coach Glasco was teaching in the camp. He does quite a few of these camps, and if you have a chance it's definitely worth attending.

On top of that she got to meet Geri Ann. Since DD's huge Ducks fan she was stoked about that.

Sorry that I missed you. BB was headed home and the wife had supper fixed so I watched a little of what he did with the young ladies and then had to scoot. Man, that is so neat that Emma got to get a picture with Geri Ann. I'm also glad that Emma recognized that we teach pretty much the same thing.

My DD was working the clinic helping the younger session. She told me she learned some new hitting drills. Anytime she can learn something new is a good camp IMO.

Coach Glasco came to my indoor facility and put on a camp. Simply put, it was the best, most informative camp I had ever seen. The use of video and live swing models for the coaches and players was truly amazing. I can't wait to get him back next year.
