I agree with the downward path, also she does the typical fastpitch stride. Meaning there is no early loading. So there is not enough time to load.

This may need to be address. This is the 3rd swing in the video. First swing was a high pitch. 2nd swing low pitch. All with same finish, downward: I'm thinking downward barrel path but, may be 'corrected' by swing thought of 'long through' or 'finish swing'. Sorry for being that guy.

I thanked "that Guy" for getting the .gif as ALWAYS !!!

I would humbly suggest only trying to get that front foot pointed @ pitcher first, and then checking out the ripple effect to the rest of the swing. As I know you are astute enough to notice... This one ez-understand correction, will make the rest of the swing tentative...and a threshold for the bat redirection work. JMHO

Really...watch this video >mute it > start @ 4:40.... then ask why he would stand there with his foot straight for well over 2 min.... if interested start again @ 4:40 with audio.

RDB - Thanks for the input. I'm aware of the downward barrel path, and it is the next "issue" to work on.

She looks good, nice work....If she adds lateral tilt as she turns the barrel you are going to get that extra stretch/overlap which will lead you to that "up through" bat path. Activate the back! Lateral tilt is a game changer.....

The coil or negative does not have to be done to the extreme. Here's a clip showing not alot of a negative move. The stride knee is lifted a little as the back hip is loaded into.

I think the hips are following to much. So your not getting any stretch or over lap. I prefer to see lateral tilt with arching the lower back. Both are required.

Alright you lost me.......I would say Maddie is really quiet in her loading process, nothing is to the extreme. Not sure what you are referencing .......Also not sure I understand the "hips are following too much" line?

I agree with this analysis. Overall I think she is still in very good shape compared to other hitters I see at her age. You have done a great job with her. When I see a hitter with a downward barrel path, the first thing I typically look at is the shoulder line at launch. It looks to me like Maddie's shoulders are relatively level at the point of launch. I see a different relationship with Davis' shoulders. Watch the rear shoulder especially.

From here, watch what happens to the overall posture. Watch what happens when he gets to contact. Draw a line from his front foot to his front hip to his head. Do the same with Cano, below. Then take a look at Maddie. My DD has this same challenge at times. She has been using the thought of "staying back while moving forward". At least that is the phrase that helps her think about it. Greenmonsters makes an excellent suggestion. We actually use that same drill. (FWIW you can also refer to gm's avatar for a good example of this..)

NOTE: I started watching the shoulders a lot more after re-reading some of mann's posts. He talked a lot about "scrunch". It's a shame he doesn't post much any more... Anyway, I am not saying the shoulders are in control of this. Just saying that they can provide a visual that can help diagnose it.
