Sounds like she had a productive season when she was able to play. Hopefully her 13 year old year will be injury-less. How much 1 on 1 hitting do you get to do with her now that she is getting older?

We are both hoping the same thing - lol. I try to get her into our backyard cage with me at least once a week (front toss from about 20'). However, those sessions generally don't include a lot of instruction, unless there's something drastic that is out of line. I will offer a suggestion of something to work on, but I don't push it. Most often, it's just about keeping her groove, and hitting the ball hard.

Eric,

I think it's a 30 fps clip. Which depending on when you start counting frame it's a 6 frame swing at best and at worst a 7 frame swing. I thought it was a 60 fps swing at first, making the Pojuls sync no good.

So there is room for improvement as far as quickness.

I agree that there is room for improvement.

If she stays within this pattern BUT ALSO tries to figure out how to hit the ball harder/generate more power, especially middle/oppo, she will naturally "grow" her load and and stretch and overlap to where it needs to be. I think that's what boys do, they are just generally less tentative/more aggressive and start to "fall into" a more advanced pattern even if they aren't taught it... (and if they don't they start to fall away from the game), whereas girls are so thinky and cautious (in Maddie's case she's a little hunchie -- Molitor compares aside I'd love her to get bigger and open up her back some), sometimes they just need to be encouraged to swing with some menace :)

Keep up the good work Maddie and Eric F!

Yes. She is being a little passive/mechanical. She just eases into the swing (which partly why it's not a 5 frame swing). She is guiding the barrel a little to much.

How about the lead arm stretching after the swing is initiated? There are hitters who stretch as the swing is initiated. Although, she is stretching the lead arm a little to far into the swing, I think anyways, thoughts?

Hi Eric,

I have a questions, please understand I am not criticizing, I wish my DD had a swing like yours. Just wondering why Maddie's back elbow is so low during the load?

Cheers

Not Eric, but I think back elbow "up" or "down" when developing stretch/separation is more of a style thing. See the examples of Jeff Kent and Paul Molitor given a few pages back. Hers will probably work up a bit
more once she learns to use her a "upper" core a bit better as her father described...although again this isn't necessary I don't think.

It has varied over time. This is just where she's comfortable right now.

We talked about the "hunchie" thing recently. I asked her to adjust a little, she over-baked it the other direction, and decided that it doesn't work for her. It was one of those days. It will get revisited again.

The lead arm stretch is a remnant from an arm bar issue she had earlier.
