EricF,

Check out this clip,

attachment.php

The clip shows him relaxed and then he starts to load. There are several things I want to point out, the posture (folding action), but first I want to focus on the hips and back leg. He starts with the back knee over the toes. The back knee is flexed and when he loads the back leg and back knee begins to extend as part of the hip load. So the back leg/knee starts flexed, extends and then flexes again (sits into rotation). When your right behind him (catcher view) the back knee is over the toes and then extends to where the back knee is over the heel. It then flexes again back over the toes.

I'll get back into the relaxing in awhile. Need to post another clip.

This is exactly what we taught my dd. I'd like to add that that back buttock/hip is going to "stick out" while the front hip does not over rotate over toward the plate. Again, as I've pointed out a lot, I used Pujols for my dd's model.

Look at Griffey as well, even though the back knee isn't flexed like Pujols you can still see the back knee/leg extend a little. Even hitters without knee flexion to begin with he still does the same thing to some degree. You can see the back leg/knee extension in the clip from behind/overhead. Not much, but it's there.

Relaxed. rythym. Knees inside the feet playing with the weight/hips in the stance. Getting ready to load. Playing with the weight on the front leg and to the back leg, back and forth. Relaxed. The swing is violent, everything is relaxed before the swing. Don't stand there waiting and getting stiff, play with the hips/hands. The technical term is weighing and unweighting, loading, unloading. Your playing with the hips getting ready to load.

I'll post another clip as soon as I find it.

Found it. Relaxed weighting the front leg and unweighting. Getting ready to load. Knees inside the feet, rythym. Everything calms down when the load begins, gets very organized. Relaxed hands, I liked the small clockwise circles with the hands.

EricF you daughter looked a little stiff, no preswing or pre load rythym with the body. She has a little hands and bat movement, just no body rythym. I like the weighting of the front leg while ready to load the back hip.

This is a discussion forum about hitting that's why I discuss hitting. We all know and have seen 'improper' hitting mechanics in college & pro swings that have been very successful. We also have seen 'proper' hitting mechanics that have been very successful. 'We all are trying to reach the 'Holy Grail' of the HL swing. Just because I comment with possible improvements doesn't mean that player won't be successful with their current swing mechanics. It's a hitting discussion board about hitting and I am discussing hitting.
I also believe my DD's swing has improper swing mechanics......just ask her what dad thinks. DD is sooooo excited that she is home from college(not), so dad can work on those 'improper' swing mechanics. Wait until 'your' DD's go away to college and you're not getting to work with them every day on hitting. It sucks.:(

Particularly when they decide to convert everyone to a no-stride swing! The best that I can say about this cookie cutter approach was that it definitely helped the 75% who didn't have adjustability.

It doesn't get much sweeter than Jr. - there's no way it isn't right when it looks this smooth and effortless
