Good afternoon all,

I've seen lots of clips of tee-work taken from inside a garage, and even several that appear to be in a living room / family room setting.

I have the standard 7' Bownet spin-off (Primed brand), and when I set it up in my single car garage, I wasn't very comfortable with taking a full swing given the shelving on the wall, garage door opener, etc.

I'm sure it would be fine to use with my girls, but has anyone tried to figure out what the minimum clearance requirements' for something like this would be? (I know the easy answer is "trial-and-error" - but it's the "error" part of the research I'm worried about!)

I also picked up on clearance two extra nets for the Bownet - what do some of you use to weight down "free hanging" nets (not clipped to a frame)?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Gags

After the Sheetrock in garage took a beating from trying to use a bownet, I just attached a cable to ceiling using eye bolts and turn buckle. Then used snap shackles to attach a net so it would slide to side if I needed room in garage. Got a cheap rug that hangs behind net on same cable to hit into to deaden ball so net weight isn't needed (first one I bought was too heavy and balls rebounded off of it, so FYI use a light weight rug). Bought net long enough to have extra on the bottom to fold up and make a pocket for balls to drop into so they don't bounce all over garage after hitting concrete floor. Ran another cable on beam in front and left extra net on top to make a ceiling for cage and wrapped net 2' on sides to make walls. Got light gauge net for about $40 (14'x10') from networldbaseball. All totaled approx $60 plus about an hour to construct. Not sure what clearance requirements you are meaning, but this set up worked well for us.

Cool thread! Hopefully somebody can post pictures of their set up. I have been kicking around ideas on how to make a nice hitting/training area in the basement. I just have a Powernet and tee set up currently, but only let her hit the softer Lite Flite balls inside, even though that part of the basement is unfinished. I would like to get about 40' of net and some turf to put down so I can do some base lines and a batters box.

Tom,

Do you have any photos of your set-up in your garage
that you would be willing to post? Thank you.

Not matter how good your set up is, you have to anticipate some collateral damage, so preemptively inform your DW that sheetrock and glass can be repaired.

PVC frame with cargo bungees holding a cheap harbor freight tarp. The bungees give enough for it not to break. I tried zip ties and they tore the tarp quickly. This has been set up over a year with plenty of pitching and batting into it.

This is my unfinished basement where I give lessons to a few dozen regulars, and about a dozen will call kids.

Keep in mind this is after many years of just a jugs net in the corner.... I've upgraded. It's still a work in progress.
