My 14 y/o is a pitcher and has just recently started with some hitting lessons. She was hitting a lot of pop ups before so needed some work. She has improved, her last tournament she was hitting a lot of hard ground balls in the gaps for base hits but is still lacking the power we feel she has the potential to have. I know it may just take some time but any suggestions would be appreciated. I hope I am posting this in the right forum.https://vimeo.com/172651539

Ok, thanks. I know she needs to use her hips and legs more and her hitting coach and travel coach are working with her but I thought that maybe somebody on here could look at her swing and have some suggestions. I will definitely look at the video.

Yeah but, you won't like them.
First off straighten your DD rear foot leg. Should be pointing straight a head towards the opposite batters box.
Needs to learn not to flatten the bat and hands level to the ball then swing.
Your DD would have 'bat drag' but, she glues the rear elbow to the rear hip.
Your DD is a spinner/one piece swinger.
Your DD swings around her body.
I'm sorry to tell you this but, it needed to be said. Like I said before YOUR DD IS LEAVING A LOT OF POWER ON THE TABLE because of her size.
she was hitting a lot of hard ground balls in the gaps for base hits
If you're happy with ground balls then continue on the path you're on. If not...
You need to find a hitting coach that understands how to teach the proper hitting sequence. It doesn't seem like this is the coach. Again JMHO.

Yep. The video is my suggestion. While she has potential, she is also afflicted with some of the most common swing flaws. This particular video does pretty good job of explaining them. After watching the video you will hopefully understand what I am seeing when I watch the video of your DD.

Edited to add: rdbass nailed it. After watching the video I posted, I suggest reading his post very carefully. He is accurate and he is trying to help.

Ok, thank you and I understand about her leaving power on the table because of her size. Obviously we want to get her swing better or I wouldn't have posted it on here. She has only been going to hitting instruction for a few weeks and I already see improvement. Before she was hitting a ton of pop ups and swinging too early. I just know that she could hit for way more power. Don't worry I can take the criticism of her. Her focus has been pitching so her hitting has been neglected.

Don't make the basic mistake of assuming that good results confirm that a swing is technically sound. Fixing a swing today may feel like taking a step or two backwards, but when the time and effort are invested and coupled with sound instruction, the swing will hold up and produce as long as you care to play the game.

Honestly not much more to say than what rdbass posted.

The biggest thing to understand is the swing sequence when her front foot lands she should be at the point where she has the most power stored up and ready to explode into the swing. I like using stills because you see exactly what position you should be in versus the position you are in for these pics I used Lauren Chamberlain, hope it gives you an idea of what you should be looking for. You DD has started leaking forward dropped her hands and begun to swing and you can see Lauren is pulled back ready to begin. She also needs to work on bat path/hands as well, she is really dropping the bat and swinging level and as rd said around her body, her hitting coach should recognize and work on this problem very quickly or you should probably get another coach. Take the video suggestion to heart there is some good stuff in there.

I see what you mean from the picture. He is working on mechanics with her and has taken video of her and broken it down. I just wanted to get some other opinions.
