Yeah, I've been using that drill. The sequence has been hard for her to get. Been getting some bat wrap. She wants to take her hands back while loading instead of while striding. But she'll figure it out. Interesting how this seems simple until you try to install it.

Try having her hold the balance position WITH the knee cocked coiled hip for a while. Hold it for a couple seconds with her hands, rear arm and back relaxed. Then think "KNEE FORWARD AND ELBOW BACK". Rear knees turns forward and elbow (humorous bone) comes back, up, then slot and fires.

After a few sessions then balance in a spot before knee cocking and hip coiling. Have coil pressure in the thigh, then try to increase it with the knee turn....never uncoiling.

My girls are catching on to coiling easier doing the walk up drill with coil. We still do the either drill too, but always start with the walk up drill...IT'S NOT EASY! Many start getting the coil, then forget loading and resisting the back...helps to have someone always watching so they they are not repeating less then ideal swings.

And watch the rear leg quiver from lack of strength and dynamic balance....it is nothing but a process....

I agree that the toughest thing for girls to catch on to is winding up the hands as they stride out....most, if not all of my new students this year start out by just bringing the hands forward with the stride....and then they tear off a good swing - and I say, "did you notice a difference in that one?" And they all say, "Yeah." And then the next swing is back to a no wind up bring the hands forward one piece swing....lol....but I don't blame them - they are very good students because that is exactly what they were taught before they came to me....they throw poorly as well and so they have never learned a good sequence....getting the rear elbow back whether throwing or hitting is like trying to convince them that they don't need a I Phone....

Exaggerate the coil, stretch/seperation of the arms. It's a drill, so we can exaggerate to stress the point and purpose of the drill.

This might be an odd question, but which way is better with the 'walk up' drill - step in front, or step behind? Which gives the better 'feel' of coiling the hips and loading the hands? Or does it really matter? I was thinking that stepping in front works better (although that is opposite of the way the girl is doing it in rdbass's clip).

I like step behind (rear foot goes behind front foot). It ready sets up the hitter coiled with their left rear pocket pointing toward the pitcher. (Rh hitter).
The boy is doing the walk through step behind also (gif is just the very end.) He is displaying a much better example of coil, and of loading the hands while unloading the lower half.

I posted both ways. I myself perfer the walk behind. I feel it better copies the feel of coiling. Give it a try see which way you feel a better coil.

RHC was posting at the same time.

Thanks. ... Seems like it might help w/ balance in loading hands. That's our off-season project - hand loading & stretch/separation. But she's in a foot boot for 2-3 weeks, so we're on hold. :(

Like your new avatar. I'm growing a little weary of the show, but did enjoy seeing Uncle Poodle get the pumpkin stuck on his head.

Gif just for you.
