John Tschida, is one of classiest guys you would ever meet... I coached baseball with him for a couple years before he started his softball career. I don't agree with everything he teaches but I can tell you he has played fastpitch at the highest level.. He has more passion for the game then anyone I know...

If the drills he promotes helped him as a hitter at the highest level who the hell are we to say what he teaches wont work... Is it all high level??? Probably not..... Is he helping hitters be successful ?? Hell yea.....

I heard the same thing about him, classy guy with good hitters, the thing different from him and hason principle guys is he works with real live hitters.;)

Dont let it get to you

Despite what Ken had to say about the Hanson Principle in the post prior to your post, it is one of the better tools that a parent can use to filter out bad information.

No one is arguing that John Tschida isn't a classy guy. The Hanson Principle simply doesn't factor that in ... and it shouldn't IMO. An application of the Hanson Principle is pretty definitive with respect to the drill he is showing here ... and claiming to be one of the best drills he has. IMO it's a good example of how the Hanson Principle can be used properly to filter out nonsense ... even if the person presenting the information is a classy guy.

How do you know that this drill helped him or any of his hitters become successful? Just because he promotes or uses a drill doesn't mean this particular drill has helped anyone. Passion, class and success do not exempt someone from being critiqued. A pitch never travels into the strike zone at the angle. What he is teaching defies reality. Not questioning his character or success as a player or coach. But as for his drill, I'll pass. And I appreciate those who have the audacity to question it. Helps others make a more educated decision.

Five, You have been attempting to apply the Hanson Principal for how long now? One must understand what's happening under the skin.

Does applying elite mechanics guarantee hitters will have no weakness's ? How do You overcome those weakness's ?

Coogansbluff, I talk to John on a regular basis... Some drills are used to overcome physical weaknesses of hitters.... Has he made every hitter elite? Hell no.... He has up to 40 girls (up to 4 years) on his DIII team and doesn't cut anyone... How many of you guys have made elite hitters applying the Hanson principal?

Does John add and remove drills as he evolves as a coach? Hell Yes.... Have You added and removed drills as a coach?

So, I guess your solution is to not help kids until.... What drills do you use that will make all your hitters elite? Does elite level swings guarantee they have no weekness as a hitter? Hell no...

Absolutely! One of the main concepts from Jim Dixon's work is that of having an understanding of "under the hood" actions. That should be used with the Hanson Principle. That is, as you test various "actions under the hood" you video yourself and seek confirmation via the Hanson Principle ... the question you are trying to answer of course is if the application of certain "under the hood actions" yielded the desired movements.

A big "yes" to studying the swing via experimentation with "under the hood actions" ... along with the application of the Hanson Principle. The two go hand-in-hand IMO.

TDS, no one is attacking John. The focus is not on "John", but on the "drill" he happened to demonstrate.

Five he is demonstrating a drill to hit a rise ball... What drills are you going to do working with an elite hitter in preparation for a good rise ball pitcher? Would You consider hitting a good rise ball to be an adjustment to the norm?

TDS, IMO the drill is flawed .... and an application of the Hanson Principle (applied to pitching anyway) indicates that he doesn't even have the profile of the riseball correct. Use the drill if you wish. Everyone has that freedom. Just mentioning that it fails the Hanson Principle from multiple perspectives. And that is nothing personal against John ... I'm sure he's an outstanding person meaning to share good information.
