The barrel path is going down to the ball.... Which makes it much easier hitting a ball up in the zone.... I know your suppose to layoff those pitches..

Big difference between "down to" and "down through". The bat path truly is important ... and IMO the drill that John presented inhibits a good bat path. It was a drill built upon a faulty premise of the flight of a riseball. That does not detract from John as a person in any way. My focus is on the "drill" and not on the "presenter".

Does the rise ball ever totally flatten? And if so about how far away from the hitter does this occur? Or does it never TOTALLY run parallel to the ground? If John's angle wasn't as steep would you see the drill as being more beneficial and practical?

Yes ... a riseball will totally flatten ... and in some cases even succumb to gravity. It is extremely rare for a riseball to be thrown for a called-strike and still be on an upward trajectory as it crosses over the plate ... the level of precision to make that happen is extremely high.

Spartans, Trying to catch-up to a rise ball without using a different path is a difficult task..

Are you suggesting that different mechanics are necessary to hit a high rise ball v. a low drop ball???.

Pujols swing is the same mechanically regardless of pitch location i.e., the bat path changes in response to pitch location, but the swing doesn't.

If they can't do that, then they don't have sound mechanics.

I don't disagree with that... How many you work with have high level mechanics.... What do you do with those girls that don't and struggle hitting the rise ball (besides the high tee)?
