So I observed a few practices lately and the coach I was watching was teaching bat wrap. Now, he didnt call it that but at the end of the day thats what he was doing......teaching the girls to wrap the bat around their head and hit the ball. The biggest ques were " Point the Knob to the catcher" and "squish the bug". He was pretty adament about both.

Now I have my personal opinion but am curious to hear what people think of this.

Hi my name is Rich and my DD has BAT WRAP.Bat wrap IMHO is bad and causes a long swing.I am trying to "cure"my DD of this problem.I perfer a more vertical bat(C Yeager).I will settle for a BHUT 45 degree bat set.Bat at or near pony tail hole.

Are you observing their stance, or are you observing where they hold their bat after load and toe-touch? The better players will know that coaches often coach stance, and that stance has absolutely nothing to do with the swing. They will learn to adjust their stance for the various coaches in their lives, and then continue to swing correctly irregardless.

Video helps here.

Not clear if what you may be describing is simply the loading of the barrel.

None of the MLB hitters in your video are wrapping the bat, by MY definition of "bat wrap."

Bat wrap is when the shaft is near the neck, the bat head is near the FRONT shoulder, and the bottom wrist is beyond 90 degrees.

Yep, pointing the knob at the catcher's feet is not a bad wrap.

A couple of bad "bat wrap" issues I can think of: knob to catcher is good but hands need to go straight back. If hands get hidden around batter it's bad, so this is maybe better called "hand wrap"

Also the typical "bat drag" problem of leading with the elbow will have the effect of the barrel being wrapped behind the batter, and the important thing here is that this occurs after the barrel loading, as FFS calls it, in the high level hitters.

No. What was being taught wasnt like that video. Were talking bat wrap, as jbooth describes it. Im talking the knob of that bat is at or passed the catchers head and top of the bat is near the head and neck area. Im talking to the point where the shoulders and body almost turn away from the picther.

All I know is that I was watching some looooong, slooooow swings.
