I have a 12u player who is trying to bunt using only one hand?! When I asked what she was doing she informed me that her catching coach who plays for a local commuinty college is teaching her to bunt with one hand because thats how lefty batters in college do it..... Have I been under a rock? Have I missed some fundamental bunting lesson somewhere? How would you even control the bat? I have never seen anyone doing a traditional bunt using only one hand... Any insight would be appreciated!!

We have a slapper on our team that bunts one handed. She is lightening fast. Hear a lot of coaches say " did you see that?" Really deadens the ball when you do it right. But she is moving toward the pitcher when she does it. Holds the bat about in the middle. Never seen a righty do it though.

I've seen a righty do it; by moving the bat only at the last moment it was quite effective because it looked more like a swing than a bunt, and caught everyone off guard. But it was more a cool trick than "this is how the college players do it", and she was already quite a good regular bunter before she learned it. (It caught me off guard too, so can't quite tell how she did it.)

My u14 DD does this brilliantly. Movement is going toward 1, eyes are on the trailing hand, hand is towards the thicker part of the bat. When done right, ball is dead but once the defense sees the hand come off the bat they stop. It's a great play to watch unfold.

My bottom hand plays no roll in bunting. The bat is balanced in
the top hand. I see top players use 1 hand. It seems to give them greater reach.
