My DD plays 3rd as well. I believe if she is creeping in and the batter changes from bunt to hit stance, she must freeze and hold her ground. I think she is in a much better position to deal with a lined shot in a ready position then she would be if back pedaling. On the other end of the stick, my DD is not very big (so teams think she will be bunting), but pulls the ball hard. Our 3rd base coach will advise the other dugout when they move in on her that she will not be bunting. I respect this, even though it's the highest caliber of ball you can play at this age, it's not the majors and we want to keep our kids safe.
