if you are referring to my post, when you point and bend the elbow, the glove naturally comes toward the chest. but that's not the point. the point is to bring the elbow into the rib cage as the throwing arm is going toward target. a little extra zip and a more accurate throw.
I wasn't referring to anyone's post in particular. If you look at a player making any type of hard throw and observe the position of the glove in relation to the front foot as the player reaches her low L position (T position) and compare it to where the glove is at release, are some people saying that the glove actually moved toward the chest instead of the chest moving towards the glove? That was basically my question.

Ok BLB, I think I understand. It would seem to me that if it is an outfield throw and that fielder is using an extended glove arm to sight the target and set the shoulder, then the glove would come into the chest. Nor should a fielder forget about proper footwork, eh? We use what I call the Kobata cha-cha. :)

Perhaps a couple of photos will help me explain what I mean.3B fielding.Still097.jpg3B fielding.Still093.jpg If you look at the position of the glove at the T-Position (2nd photo) using the front foot (or background) as a point of reference, did the glove actually move towards the body at release? Sorry about having the photos so big and in the wrong order of sequence.

BLB, good pics and yes. glove is out and then elbow adducted as throw is made. I don't know what everyone else teaches but I teach this. what I don't want to see is the glove down by the knee or behind the leg, etc. balls are stupid, they go where people throw them. (every player I have ever coached has heard this one or more times, as needed. lol) imo, if everything is lined up, the better chance of an accurate throw.

I think this is simply a question asking what is the optimal form for throwing. So it seems the confusion is in the que’s used by different coaches. Different que’s work for different kids. Some understand point the glove some point the elbow. It’s all que’s to get the shoulder turned and arm in right direction. Tucking the glove is another que to keep the arm in front of the body to keep shoulder from flying out. Because this is as close to optimal form for normal throw. If you don’t believe me reach back with glove hand grab your center belt loop hold on and throw the ball. Can you throw it to 1st base sure you can. Is it optimal form it’s not for me. By the way this is not the optimal form for a quick throw or sidearm throw. If the tuck the glove isn’t making since to your player try explaining form with more detail or maybe experiment with different forms. I bet the hold the back belt loop which is shoulder open elbow down and back is not optimal. So what is optimal. I coach form based on information gathered by coaches way smarter than me that shared their information of what they think is optimal.

The D1 Showcase I went over the weekend one of the few things I heard was them talking about this. The two coaches basically said they wanted to see the players tuck the glove or pull the glove in but don’t let it flop by their side.

If I recall most if not all of the girls did it correctly in the drill but during ground live balls some reverted to old form and flopped glove. Probably not a coincidence but their throwing accuracy wasn’t great.
