My daughter played/plays a lot of different positions. Plus she's a pitcher. As she gets older we've started asking her where she prefers. She prefers first base. Ok- you like what you like. Ok. This year we only did travel ball- 9 tournaments (no rec). She only played first base twice. Both times. BOTH times- There were dropped 3rd strikes and the catcher threw to first .. but.. right at the runner. Right at the runner. !! Both times to snag them my daughter would've had to make a move she doesn't yet know how to make. My husband (who never blames anything on my daughter ever ) says absolutely nothing could've been done. If she had stepped the way she needed to step to snag them then she would've been in the base path of the runner and the runner would've been awarded the extra base. My daughter (right after the play) asked the coaches "what should I have done?" They are bad coaches in a lot of different ways. And they fight about everything. The one said, "not your fault " while the other coach threw a fit (his daughter plays first too) in front of my daughter and yelled, "that base is as much yours as hers " to which the other coach stormed away. Each time this happened they've stopped playing her there. We're on a different team this year. So hopefully those days are over. But it still haunts me. She still doesn't know what to do in that situation. It haunts me that she says first is one of her preferred positions too. Then someone should really coach this issue to her - for goodness sakes.. it's happened twice in one season. And she only played first TWICE this season. This can't be our luck. No one around her SEEMS to have an answer for her. So they just don't play her there. It's crazy to me. Ugh.
