Generally, the coaches are right, but on a grounder that 2B or pitcher must charge, we teach the throwing foot out front so the hips are aligned for a throw.

This makes sense but is very specific to that situation. You wouldn't like teach a 10U kid to do that in a more general environment.

having been where you are, I would recommend getting the howard Kobata videos. for awhile you could get a lot of it on You Tube, but not anymore. I have his original two disc set and it is the benchmark for fielding instruction. Throwing-maybe not as much but IF or OF it is well worth it.
