Auburn has been using the "hop" for a couple of years. I would think MLB teams would be using it if it was really effective.

I have always advocated a slow creep and slight rise shifting weight more to the balls of the feet at bat contact. I think it is along the same line of thinking.

My dd sent me this link last night...pretty interesting. The part where the scientists say the duck and hop is an instinctual reaction in animals when their lives are in danger..... Hmmmm?

Dustin Pedroia has been doing that his entire career. It works for him!

Can't deny Auburns stats: #1 (2014) and #11 (2015) in fielding, #3 (2014 & 2015) double plays per game.

DD uses the technique in school ball and her first step has improved tremendously. Just need a drill to improve diving skills to lay out for a ball.

While I often believe that fastpitch fielding and hitting modeled after MLB is usually very effective. I'm not 100% sure that the absence of MLB doing something doesn't mean it's not still a good thing. Maybe the hop is most effective in fastpitch because of the smaller field/ the players are all at a much closer proximity to the batter= necessary faster reaction. Kind of like the same principle is seen that more fastpitch players wear facemasks and MLB does not
