So, I was at the Softball Coaching Convention on Saturday and was very excited to see a 2012 NFCA Hall of Fame coach talk. The first part was about the throwing progression and she started with wrist flick drills and then went into the 90 degree L, fingers to the sky and wave good bye position. Really?

Are coaches at this (very high) level actually putting their players through this or was she dumbing it down for us lower level pee on coaches and fathers?

Thanks, Rob

I have no idea what the audience was but I would have liked to either manage or have DD play for a Team were all the players can throw adequately. Might not apply to your DD, or Team, but that is the way these things go.

Was this in Chicago?

This was in CT at the Mohegan Sun casino. The audience ranged from dad's to probably all the way up to college coaches. Very big convention with some very big names, like Patrick Murphy, Sue Enquist, Donna Papa and Dana Cavalea. Previous years had Don Slaught. Players speaking included Jessica Mendoza, Ashley Charters and Kelly Montalvo. There was also the owners of various training facilities.

A lot of it was geared towards your higher level teams, so to hear this this kind of instruction was kind of disconcerting.

YoYo, I would have rolled my eyes, too. By the way, I hate that rhyme.

Yes, Amy I was rolling my eyes, but I really wanted to get up and scream 'you're an NCAA Div I coach and you still teach that'.

I can understand why I taught my DD that way and why most of my Little League and local travel ball teams teach that. Because I didn't know any better until I found this forum. But if you have attained that level of coaching..........

Too funny... I taught that rhyme to my dd's t-ball team when she was 5 ... lol
Hard to believe a D-1 coach was still promoting it???

I asked my D1 coach buddy for help last year when I was getting into throwing mechanics. His answer to me: "I get paid to recruit girls that already have it, not teach girls to get it."

I know there are good college coaches like Tschida out there, but a lot of them are like my friend, they are good managers of talent.
