I wanted to spruce up my DD's catcher glove. She's a 10u and loves her Vinci glove. I like it, just think the white laces are not that great. I conferred with DD for her thoughts and she was all into it Picked up the lace needle and some nice red laces since that's her team color (red/black).

I never relaced a glove before so I took advice I saw here and did small sections slowly and keeping the laces orientated the right way. I had no interest in doing the inner laces, not that brave yet.

Well, got it all done last night and surprised DD this morning and she was super excited.

Just some reference pics for before, it was a standard 2 tone fortus. After pics are after I applied some glove conditioner to the laces. once it's dried I'll use some beeswax in the palm, another great tip i saw here.

I'll usually get all of the laces out of the glove and then clean and condition the leather, use 2BWax No 1 conditioner on the gloves. Then I'll use Skidmores leather cream on the lace before lacing the glove. Also, I'll use Obenaufs on the inside of the glove as it keeps the inside from cracking. Fastpitch gloves can get smelly too as they often have the Velcro wrist closures and cloth padding for the back of the hand inside the gloves. That I wash out as well, get all the salt and sweat out of it.

When tying the knots you want to start with about 4 inches and the rough sides facing out and then you over under, (without twisting the lace) like the start of tying your shoes, and then pull tight you'll be at a 90 degree angle from the holes and now the lace will be shiny sides out. Then you do the same over under, again without twisting and pull tight. This will have the lace running the same direction as the holes and gives you that nice knot that Rawlings and Wilson tie on the new gloves.

Palms are easy, you just want to do them in thinner leather 3/16 instead of 1/4 "

Grounds been wet and HS seasons about to start, I've had to relace about 30 gloves the last week or so.

Did these 3 yesterday if photos work

Looks nice. My DD's Vinci Catcher mitt looks the same with the white laces. White laces are just not the right choice for all the time these glove spend in the dirt and mud. Great gloves though. You definitely improved the look of this one.

Thanks. I agree with that, white laces look nice when new but just don't age nicely. Now I just need to figure out how to relace the top of the web.

Not only do they prematurely start to look like crap, they’re soft, they stretch, and they break sooner!

Summoned up the courage and relaced the top. After I started realized I began from the wrong side. Definitely made it harder when laces pulled through the top but got it through. I'll try to post pics later.

Smile from DD made it well worth the effort.

White laces and white gloves seem like a bad idea to me.

Just out of curiosity? How many mafia style beatings did it take to break in that Vinci mitt?

It took a good 4 weeks of assaulting this glove to get it to 'usable'. Then after two months of fall games the break in finished up, mostly. I think with relacing this glove it will last her until she's ready for the next size, I'm no longer worried about a lace breaking at the worst moment.

There is a nice thick palm pad that made this glove harder to break in.

You need to untie that web knob and re-tie it backwards to get it to lay parallel with the web spiral. It’s been discussed here many times about Vinci’s stubborn palm pads on their catchers mitts, they have a memory and it’s very hard to get them to change their “mind”. I’ve beat several of their mitts to the point I thought I was going to tear something. I had a “22” series that kicked my butt, didn’t ever think I was going to get it usable!
