We live in a small town so I have to get most equipment online. Just got a Rip-It Vision Pro batting helmet for my daughter and it seems loose. I followed their sizing instructions and she was right in the middle of a youth large or the adult small-medium. I got her the small-medium, but their ended up being a pretty decent gap on the sides. I'm guessing her head is narrow and long versus more round. Does the youth helmet fit differently? Are their other brands that work better for narrow heads or is she just going to be stuck with have to modify a helmet with extra padding?

Front to back it fits really nicely, she just has a narrow head so it is has a gap around the ears.. I'm really impressed with the overall construction on the Rip-It helmet. The dual layer padding seems like it would give good protection. Thin layer of comfort foam with a heavy dense foam behind it to provide energy absorption. Her old Boombah helmet is just full of soft padding. Makes it comfortable, but would crush flat under impact and provide little protection. On top of that I had to add foam all over that helmet to get it to fit her head right. Had to make it work though as that is what the previous team required.

The boombah’s are junk. You bought best helmet on the market imho. Just get a smaller one.

DD just got a new team helmet, a Demarini. It looks suspiciously similar to the Rip-It. That is a good thing. I will compare in the morning.

If the Boombah is comfortable than I would let her wear it. I am sure it provides adequate protection. Helmets have to go through a ton of testing. They probably fired 50 98 mph softballs at that thing before the model got appoved. The biggest issue with helmets is finding one that fits. If it fits well it will protect well.

My daughter loves her Schutt from her spring 2018 team, not certain which one it was, fit her great, nice padding. Hated (and we did too) the demarini her fall team used, and we left for a lot of other reasons. current team is going with a Rawlings helmet, we are not enamored with it, probably going to have to do a lot of extra padding, padding seems way too soft, jiggles around when she shakes her head (and it was smallest one they had to try on).

seems a lot of manufacturers make the padding way too soft. should be comfortable, but IMHO, player should have to pull outwards on ear holes to get helmet on. If not, helmet is too loose, or padding is not firm enough.

I think in the end what matters most if how well it fits the individual.

Any kind of looseness is not acceptable. The helmet needs to fit snugly.

My DD's current team uses the Easton Prowess helmets, which have a sizing pad kit available adjust for odd shapes.

The Easton pad kit is what I used to get her old Boombah helmet to fit. I had to add padding front, back, top, and sides to make that thing fit. The Rip-It only needs it on the sides. Just talked with Rip-It and they gave me the typical CYA speech of not modifying a helmet at all or it would void the warranty etc.

Getting a helmet to fit my DD's giant head has never been a problem. Pants are a nother story. I wouldn't worry about that Rip It Warranty. I doubt you will use it.
