There is a perfect weight for every batter. Too many people just read a book and say, gee, lighter bat will swing faster and exit faster...NO.
Also, some has to be said about what the hitters intention is as well at the plate.
You can dry swing a light bat 500mph or tee swing...but in a game swing, you aren't doing that. Its more controlled. There is a point that
you aren't swinging a bat any faster. If you can swing a 33/24 as fast in a game as you can a 33/23, I would do a 33/24. But I am a very simple
minded man, so just my opinion.

Good ol' Ray Demarini said...swing the heaviest bat possible without giving up bat speed.

Totally agree with you Core!! And Good ole Ray was the best!

Westwind - interesting post and you've got me wondering...you've probably shared this before but how big is your DD? Height, weight, age, strength? My twins have been swinging 34/24 bats (CFX and a Ghost) and having some success but their new TB coach wants them to drop down to a 33". Stronger than average for 5'5", weighing in at 128-140 has me wondering about going heavier with a 33" Mizuno PC? The CFX was pretty much at stated weight and of course the Ghost was over.

Dd is 5’07, 140 and above average strength. Second year 16u. She has always been above average hitter, her highest exit speed was at a camp off a tee at 74. Has been swinging a 33 since about 7th grade, would have kept her in a 32” longer but we had a bat emergency and I had several nice 33’s my older dd had moved on from. She hit them well for the competition we were seeing at the time.

My older dd played two years at mid major before she suffered a career ending back injury. Also 5’7”, more wirey looking, one big bundle of fast twitch muscles. She used a 33/24 in high school but I believe she swung a 33/23 in college. I tried to move her to a 34/24 her senior year of hs but she said she “didn’t feel as quick to react” with the 34. She competed against some very good pitching in our hs conference at that time. (We don’t have that now.)

DD likes the 33/25. A lot. It is a great bat for the hs pitching we see at a small high school. In the summer when we are seeing signed p5 conference type pitching, I sometimes wonder if it is the best choice. I think she loses a little “adjustability” and might benefit from the additional split second to evaluate pitches. As a dad, it’s easy to forget that when you are seeing the absolute best pitching in the country your kid probably isn’t going to hit as well, lol. So.... as much as I’d like to claim she swings the best bat for her ability, sometimes I wonder.

Thanks Westwind, that pretty well sums up what I'm looking at also. We got "talked" into the 34 against some objections at the time and while they've had success the "adjustability" against better pitching seems to me that it could be better. Need to measure exit speeds again with some different bats/sizes and lengths to see where that stands.

I'll jump in on this. I'm sure some now roll their eyes with my comments on heavier bats, but I fully believe girls can swing FAR heavier bats. They just don't have to. Boys are forced to start swinging dead (BBCOR) -3 bats around age 13-14. Look at the baseball forums for all the posts on that transition. They are plentiful. Girls are never forced to do so. Every single girl can use the same bat at 14u that they used at 8u, if they choose. If a girl trains to swing a heavier bat, I don't see any reason why every girl out there couldn't swing a -8 by age 13. A few months of training and they'll be swinging it just as well as their -10, but hitting the ball noticeably harder. My DD still plays baseball. I knew the "change" was coming so she was swinging a -3 by age 11 and a -5 full time. When she started playing softball a 34/26 still felt light compared to what she was used to. I don't think she's some magical athlete, she just trained for it. Every girl out there can do the same.

If you don’t mind me asking what was the back injury?

So I bought my DD a new ASA Ghost from Core. It is actually the same length and drop as the LXT that she has been using for a while (30/19). As measured by my trusty ball coach pocket radar her top exit velocity has increased 3 mph over the LXT. The big difference is probably in the average exit velocity. Her average is probably sitting around her old maximum. I will be the first to admit this could possibly be the mental aspect of a new bat but it certainly seems to be a little hotter.

I definitely would be interested to see if anyone has done a similar measurement for the Power Carbon.
The LXT is evenly balanced and the Ghost is an end loaded sledge hammer.
Not an apples to apples comparison. The Xeno, Quatro Pro end load, Demarini FNX would be a more suitable comparison. I can’t speak to the PC don’t know if it’s end loaded or balanced.

Deflated disks and bone on bone in facet joints. Has a procedure called "ablation therapy" every six months in order to be able to walk, sit and sleep without pain. Her college town has a pain management physician/researcher who has helped her immeasurably but she is pretty much a 21 year old with a permanently debilitating injury.
