Looking for a new glove for dd. She is 9 and has very small hands. I like the All Star Vela and am leaning that way. I've seen some good prices on the Rawlings Liberty and she really likes the red, white and blue model. I've also looked at some of the Vinci and Bradley gloves. Bradley seems to be aimed at younger kids with smaller hands but I keep coming back to the Vela. Opinions or experiences appreciated. I want something will last her more than a season or two before needing to be replaced. Last thing, I see Rico gloves advertised on Face Book a lot and I like that they offer customization but don't know anything about them. Thanks.

You have mentioned my top 3 recommendations for a player like your DD...Vinci, All-Star, Rawlings LA-series. You really can't make a bad choice between those. For Vinci, talk to Drakemir. He will hook you up with the best price and model for your DD.

Thanks Eric F. She really likes a light weight glove and for some reason the All Star "looks" light to me. Any insight on that?

My DD (14yo, TB player) uses a 12.5" All-Star. She's had it about a year, and likes it a lot. It's holding up very well, but she splits time between C and 1B, so it's not getting full-time use. Her previous glove was a Worth Liberty Advanced, and the All-Star is definitely lighter.

Another glove worth considering for a smaller player is the Akadema ABJ74.

My daughter tried the Vinci glove and it just didn't fit my 8yo DD's small hands. The finger stalls were just too wide and she felt like her fingers were spread too wide. We went with a Bradley Next Play series 11.75". Fit was perfect for her. Bradley has a good return policy too.

Hey Mike, I’ll take a stab at a few pointers even though I feel I’m terrible at recommending gloves for 8/9/10 year old girls, Horween doesn’t seem to work too well. And I agree with Eric, you really can’t lose with those 3 manufacturers recommendations. Question.....which All-Star Vela are you looking at? For a 9 year old I’d probably focus on a 11.75” glove but that varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Okay here we go:

***First thing, scratch Rico off your list right now, period! Don’t bring it up again!
***Contact Drakemir and discuss your options on a Vinci Fortus model, for a 9 year old I’d probably lean that way.
***I have a All-Star CMW3000 catchers mitt, really my only dealings with All-Star, I like their gloves!
***I absolutely know nothing about Bradley gloves but they seem interesting, geared exactly towards what you’re looking for, do a little more research!

And one last thing, don’t get hung up on a glove lasting 2 or 3 years for a 9 year old, gloves for girls this age aren’t like buying a $360 custom, they’re fairly inexpensive. Plus at her age you’re going to have a ball size change coming soon, and she may have a crazy growth spurt. If she really loves this game and loves playing, buy her a better, more expensive, more serious glove when she’s 12. For now concentrate on fit and something she can squeeze and is comfortable and confident with.

I was looking at either the 11.75 or 12" All Star. Good to know about Rico!
I'm only worried about her glove lasting because she is so freaking picky about EVERYTHING that she wears: socks, shoes, pants, and especially gloves. It makes me go home and drink whenever we shop for anything. It's even worse with her and her my wife for some reason. Her biggest issue with gloves is that most of them are too heavy, according to her anyway. She's actually using her brothers 2 year old Rawlings baseball glove because it fits her hand well and she can squeeze it.Thanks.

Again, not really familiar with Bradley gloves at all other the the post that OsDad started the other day. I will say that if Anna was nine again and we were just starting down this road, I would have bought one of these sight unseen, great looking glove!

Of course I would have probably bought a classic tan baseball glove without velcro!!
