The Mako was def a drop9, so she was already there

Core, Corlay, others....please share your thoughts on this question. How many girls are using a drop 8 or 9? I know a drop 10 is I am guessing the largest part of the market and just wondering how many use a greater drop than a 10. What about college? Do most girls use a drop 8 or 9 in college?

I have always wanted to ask this one as I know an 8 or 9 would be powerful if the player can get it around. I just see nothing but drop 10s around in 16 and 18U and just wondering. Thanks!

I don’t know what the percentage is but I would love to guess: 1-5% for competitive tb. Lower yet for college. I think it is mostly because -10 is what most swing and is what is most commonly available. You aren’t going to be able to stop by Dicks Sporting Goods and try out a -9 on a whim

There was only one player on dd’s college team that swung a low drop bat that I know of. I know she swung -8 old school Stealths and then a -8 Xeno prior to college. I believe she was still swinging a -8 or possibly a -9 in college. She was a fearsome hitter in both hs and college. I think she would have done it with a -10 if that was what she was accustomed to swinging.

I think if bats of varying lengths and weights were readily available for hitters to test drive, some hitters with good mechanics would be really surprised what they end up liking.

I agree with WW...you are def in the 1-5% area for drop 8 and 9s. Drop 8's are almost nothing. That's why some bats don't even come drop 8. Also why some manufacturers when they release a bat, they make sure drop10s are the first ones off the line. Drop 10s are you more predominant weight by far, BUT Demarini has a strong drop11 sales as well. I actually think their drop11 sells as well as their 10.

Not because its wrong to swing a drop 8 or 9, I actually think more girls could handle one (not all of them, but a few def could), but its not in the "book" to do so..even though I think they could get more pop from one. So because its not in the "book", a lot of hitting coaches/coaches/parents frown on it and don't even consider it because its not the norm. Not a ton of individuality in fp.

Coming from a DD that swings a 34 -8 (super end loaded at that, slow pitch, thanks Core), the only way girls will swing a heavier bat is if they are made to. Boys wouldn't but they're forced to. -3 with most at 15u, lots in middle school and 14u. I fully believe girls should be made to, but I just believe and know girls are capable of more than they're led to believe.

There is almost a bigotry against low drop bats.... I can tell you that if a player was swinging a -8 Ghost and was somewhat careful about letting it lay around the dugout, 99% of players and coaches would never figure out it was anything different from the dozen -10 Ghosts in the dugout.

Asking for a friend: if someone wished to try an end loaded -8 SP bat, are they expensive and who makes a good one?

WW, I could send one to you to try for nothing, just return it. But, sp bats are assoc specific like the Ghost.
Most come either ASA legal or USSSA legal. Dual are junk

It would be nothing but Miken or Worth...they are tops in slowpitch.

Core is obviously the guy to go to. SP bats are also noticeably less expensive as well. My DD uses the Miken DC41, now has ASA and USSSA. There's a new USSSA bat, the SuperFreak, that is getting rave reviews as well. Their bats that are end loaded are advertised as "Max load" and "Supermax load". Max is a 1/2 ounce end load and super is full ounce end load. There are no FP bats like it. If your DD can swing it, the power is in no way comparable to -10 fp bats. It almost feels like cheating. My DD's coaches affectionately call her USSSA bat "Lucille".
