I am a high school coach, and we've never videoed our games before, but I would like to start doing so this year hopefully. My question is, what would be the best starter kit to get me going? I've read up on some of the gopros and stuff, but am still unsure of just what to get. We would only film one game at a time mostly, with the exceptions being the 3 tournaments we travel to.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Lots of good info on GoPro for baseball/softball here...https://www.lynkspyder.com/support/equipment

I've been using a GoPro 4 Silver for recording games for a couple of years. If you're recording anything longer than about 1-1/2 hours, you'll need more battery life. For me, and external battery pack is a must. A 64G card will hold 4+ hours of 1080/30 recording.

Agree with Eric. Hero4 silver is still a great little camera. Because of the age, it will be hard to find new for a sensible price. Though, you an generally find them refurbished for less than $100 (BHPhoto is a good source...would stay away from Amazon on refurbished stuff).

For their current models, we are still recommending GoPro's HERO5. The 6 is a great camera, but we have dealt with some stability issues that are keeping us from updating our recommendation. As Eric said, an external battery is a must. Even for one game, the external will keep you from having to worry if you have enough juice for a full game. We recommend the EasyAcc Power Bank series; specifically the 20k mAh battery:

I like this battery because it has (2) 2amp input charging ports. So it will charge twice as fast as most batteries. And at 20k mAh, it will last a very long time.

There are other camera options out there, but we find the GoPro to be the most stable for recording. If streaming is of interest (which is sounds like it is not), the Mevo Plus is the best we have tested. Not as rugged as the GoPro, but streams well and even saves great video to an internal microSD like the GoPro. The control app for smartphone is a wonderfully designed app and easy to use.

Hope this helps.

JB55, take a look at the 2 thread below that I started. I was a newbie to recording games as well and everyone has been very helpful with getting me all set up. I will be recording my first set of games this weekend.
