are there any decent synthetic gloves out there. DD2 has turned vegetarian for moral reasons (and while we do not agree, we support her, and she is sticking with it). I do not think she has made the connection to leather yet, but I feel it is inevitable. Want to explore what options are. even more tricky as she is a catcher, hopefully her current mitt (new this year) lasts quite a while, and she does not insist on getting rid of it since she already has it.

Hopefully she doesn't start to wonder how they make glue. A joke, I am not sure if most glue used today is still made from horse or other animal products.

Never seen those, evidently there is a demand at that price, the website says they have stopped taking orders and are only making others on an invitation basis.

If I'm not mistaken, they make every glove one at a time my hand, specifically for the hand it's being made for! I've never seen or held one before, but everything I've ever read or heard about them was over the top positive! His name is Scott Carpenter, on their site, check out the C-MOD option they're doing to non-Carpenter gloves, send them your new $250.00 Horween Rawlings HOH and for another $400.00 they'll Carpenter(ize) it for you!! And people who have done it say it's awesome!

Will DD have a problem touching a ball with a leather cover?

Maybe it's time to switch to golf - non-animal-based equipment, with college money to boot!

I have had players use mechanix gloves for bating. They are synthetic leather, $15 and grip really well.

thankfully, we went out and got a new glove last night, and she did not seem to be mindful of it (she is young), not making the connection. she also still wears leather shoes and boots, so hopefully not an issue at least for foreseeable future (got her new catcher'smitt for Christmas, and the fielding glove we got last night should have at least a few years in it).

good to know there are options though even if frightfully expensive

We humans were designed to eat meat and vegetables. Our teeth are designed for meat and vegetables. Whether you believe in God or evolution is irrelevant to the scientific fact that our teeth and digestive systems are designed for BOTH meat and vegetables. That being said, a vegetarian is someone who has chosen to not eat meat, probably because an animal had to die to provide it. They still eat cheese and eggs, drink milk, and use leather products. Some even still eat fish. It’s a vegan who refuses to use anything that comes from an animal. Personally, I don’t agree with either. I use animals for my own benefit, which includes eating them and using products made from their hides. I’ve just learned the difference between vegetarians and vegans so I’ll know how far away from each I need to be so I don’t say something to trigger them.
