How important is barrel size? My buddy managed to get a usssa Ghost in 29/18 for his daughter. He says he's sending it back because the barrel is so small versus her old Demarini. I like the thought of the bigger barrel as well but was just wondering if it really makes that much difference. He sent me a pic and it is substantially smaller that her CFX in 28/17. When I received my daughters LXT I was disappointed by how small the barrel is,28/17, but she seems to barrel it up just fine when not complaining that it's too heavy. Compared to the Combat Maxxum she was using, everything has a small barrel

Barrel size isn't anything if you hit the ss. Problem is, no bat has the barrel size of the tiny Sprites (28/17, 29/18, 30/19) because they gave up everything to keep size. If your
buddy did any kind of research, he would have known this before he ordered.

Btw, its not like that huge barrel is all ss...haha. Has the same size ss...but it helps when you miss the ss, its a little more forgiving.

And honestly, I think that's why some companies stay away from drop11's

I will probably get blasted for this but I am blown away at how many parents of 8U, 10U, and 12U kids spend big bucks on their kids equipment. When my DD first started playing at 10U and continuing to 12U I bought the all alloy bats and entry level gloves. I didn't buy my DD her first composite until she was 14. It was a used Worth 454 33/23 FP454. Great bat. Then USSSA required the thumbprint stamp and she's been searching for that feel ever since. Anyways I find it hard to believe that most kids at 8U and 10U can get get the benefit of a composite bat vs the alloy bat. Her glove she prefers is the 12.25 Easton Core which you can get on Ebay for $45 right now and its has held it's shape for 3 1/2 years now. Just my honest opinion.

The reason this post is here is because the OP was talking about a 29 and 28 inch bats.

Honestly I was the last hold out on our team and tried several used cheap composites first. When you go to a tournament and every girl on every other team is swinging hot bats it kind of takes the option away. When I bought my daughters first "good" bat, -13 Combat Maxxum, it was amazing to me how much harder she hit the ball versus her aluminum Easton and the older LS Zephyr composite we tried. Most if not all of the girls we play with and against in 8u still seem to use the entry level gloves though.
