I got the apeman a77, thought I was ordering the A80, which has optical zoom (this is about only difference I think). this is my biggest issue, hard to tell difference based on their amazon listings.

for the money, it works pretty good, poor sound quality though, but I am not interested in sound really

big obstacle now is stitching segments together, then being able to pull clips out. computing power available to me seems a bit underpowered for this

Frames per second is usually the biggest issue with computing power. If you are shooting 60 fps or higher (720p can shoot 120 fps) try shooting 30 and see if that helps.

I'm right here.
We don't generally recommend GoPro knock-offs (it's nothing personal..we don't want our product knocked off, so it only makes sense). So this isn't a recommendation, rather a notice. At 4:05 PM Pacific today, this camera is supposed to be on a Lightning discount on Amazon:

AKASO EK7000 4K WIFI Sports Action Camera Ultra HD...

I'm looking for a camera to mount on the fence to record my DD play in the field. I'll also use the camera to make a skills video (or just use my cell phone for that).

Will this camera work well to tape her field play?

Does anyone have an update on having success with cheaper GoPro-like cameras?

I'd really like one that you can control remotely from a phone.

Finding one in the $50 range would be great.

I have a Campark X30 that I’m happy with. It doesn’t do streaming, but the picture quality is great. I mount it side-by-side with a Hero4 (which does stream). I set the Hero to 720p to reduce bandwidth, and run the Campark at 4K, 30 fps. The picture on the Campark is dramatically better, and not just the resolution. The colors and contrast are outstanding.

DD pitches, and I have no problem blowing up the image so her pitching coach can get a good look at her game performance. They’re currently $99 on Amazon, with a $20 ‘coupon’ discount. I got mine last year for $65, so it might pay to track it for a short time.

ETA: The Campark does connect to your phone via Wifi, but it really only lets you turn it on or off, in addition to seeing what the camera sees.

This may be stupid but.... You can blow up the pictures.... Not that actual video???

Not a stupid question at all. Digital camera sensors record images and video differently, because of the mass data that video requires. In general a 20-24mp camera has a resolution in the ball park of 4000 x 6000. 4K video is 2160 x 3840.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but what I was referring to is increasing the image percentage in a video editing program (I use Final Cut Pro). So I can “zoom in” on the pitcher by increasing the size of the image. The Campark stands up pretty well at 250%.
