Reaching out to see if any of you have done anything different when re-lacing this glove. It's DDP's favorite glove of all time, she's had it not quite two years and has put a LOT of miles on it and has taken pretty good care of it along the way. Last night she blew out the laces in the fingers. There has been some discussion on here before about upgrading the "old" Vinci laces and how much better the glove can be. I'm usually able to do some small/emergency re-lacing but thought I'd ask if anyone has had good, bad or ugly experiences with this? I know without new laces in there it's just a band-aid until it gets restrung. Annasdad has given me the name of a guy in TX that does this work (and he seems pretty reasonable).

Also, this stock glove is black on black and that's probably what she'll keep it at but if you've had one re-laced and used different color laces, post up a pic and let's see it!

Just got through tightening DD’s top finger laces on her 1929. Had to call Casedawg to figure out the lacing pattern, lol! Can’t speak to a complete relace, but the top finger lace is pretty straight forward once you figure it out. No doubt ANNASDAD’s guy does great work, but you should be able to find someone fairly local who could turn it around in a day or two and keep from having to ship it.

We are blessed to still have a local “Mom n Pop” sports store who still know how to relace gloves and will do most fielders gloves for $30 including lace!
Shoutout to Tennessee Sporting Goods in Knoxville, TN!

Fingertips? If so it’s pretty straight forward. Do you have a Play it again Sports locally to you? My PIAS always keeps Tanners lace on hand, for the fingers, web, and web spiral you’ll want to buy 1/4” lace, everywhere else uses 3/16”.

If you’re just repairing the fingertips, one 72” piece of lace will do. For a full re-lace, go all TAN, nice contrast, and breaks up all that black, unless you like that all black look.......my Kyle Seager ProNP6 is all black with tan laces, I think it looks great!

If you have time, just ship it to Rous for a full cleaning, conditioning, and re-lace, he’ll also check the thumb stay and see if it needs replacing, depending on how old that Vinci is, some of them had thumb issues. You’ll be blown away when you get it back I promise!

Another source for lace is USA Sports Direct, which is Glovesmith.

Also wanted to add....if you're going to do this yourself, go to YouTube and search Dirty30 re-lacing videos, really good detailed videos by one of the best glove guys ever. Also go ahead and just order yourself a good needle, for just one needle get yourself a 5" Tanners/Rawlings Perma-Lok style needle. The Perma-Lok needle is the one that's threaded on one end, don't get the style that has a slot in it like a sewing needle. Either way, all the needles are a PITA but the threaded style works best. You can Google lacing needles and probably pick a vendor you've used before.

Before I left for work I checked, I have a piece of 72" black Tanners on my workbench, if you're just repairing the fingers PM me your address and I'll mail it to you.......but you still need a needle.

Thanks, DD wants to keep it all black (I tried to convince her it would look sharp with tan lacing but nope). I sat down with it (and a beer) last night and got the job done. It wasn't the finger tip laces but the one that runs twice through the fingers along the knuckle area. Made a makeshift needle with some fairly stiff wire. If (when) I have to do this again a lacing needle that is designed for the job would probably make it a lot easier.

ps. Thanks for the tips on where to get the needle and the lace! I have a few decent length pieces of Rawlings lace (tan) left over from a relatively new GG Elite that unfortunately became a chew toy for our puppy last year which should get us through most smaller repairs. Probably get DDC's catchers mitt and this older BV1929 re-laced and refurbished after HS season this fall...if they make it that long!

Long live the FrankenGlove!!

Knuckle area is the mid-finger lacing, usually just seen in 12.75" gloves and larger. One easy trick is to take a punch, nail, etc. and punch a hole in the end of the lace that's being pulled through first, take a large paper clip or even better some mechanics wire, loop it through the hole in the lace and form a makeshift needle out out the wire! Also, trim the edges of the lace being pulled through to form a point or arrow.

Glad you got it sorted out!

Lots of instructional videos available on YouTube and you can buy lace and a lacing needle online cheap. Relacing a glove is a great evening activity when the weather is nice and you can enjoy an adult beverage and a cigar while you are doing it.

Had to search this thread again for any tips on re-lacing I might have forgot!

My biggest suggestion is to unlace a little, lace a little, then unlace some more, relace some more. Much easier to keep track of what you are doing vs. unlacing the entire glove and hoping your remember how to relace it. This approach does not work well if you have to separate the halves to do the interior laces, but those seldom wear out.

That's pretty much been my approach so far...
