Took DD out this weekend to take a look at metal cleats. Did not get any however.. She is almost 13 playing 14U..
What are the pros and cons about metal cleats?
Also, where are they allowed/not allowed?

She is playing both rec and TB and I know they are not allowed in her rec league so it'd only be for TB. She mostly plays USSSA tournaments.
I'm not sure if they'd be allowed in MS ball either..

Thanks for any advice!

DD(13) uses them all the time for school ball and travel. Has a pair of turfs though as the metals seem to stick to much on that surface. Ringor's all the way

My DD (13yo, 14U TB) wears metals, including with her MS team. I keep a pair of plastic cleats in my car, just in case we play on fields where metals aren't allowed. So far, she hasn't had to use them.

To your specific question... Pros are easy: more grip! Cons...umm, she forgets and leaves them on walking into your house with hardwood floors?

When they first start wearing them, does it take adjusting to them. Or any issues with them hurting ankles because of the better grip? Just worried that it’d be my kid who would fall over :/
She is notorious for leaving her cleats on though in the house when she forgets her slides..though I feel like she would wear her SB uniform all day if we didn’t make her change!

If anything you have injuries going back to rubber for the lack of grip. But honestly, no, never an injury issue here. It's not like going from a bicycle to a motorcycle. Lol There will definitely be an increase of minor issues with players sliding into others at bases. My DD still has some scrapes from almost 3 weeks ago where a base defender tripped over her and stepped on her leg as she slid into base. That's just part of the game though.

DD is a fan of the New Balance cleats. They last the Year which is normally 3 seasons and weigh less than many. In my experience, any kid that wears metal has a hard time going back to plastic. They are just that much better.

We are really trying to make this her last season of rec...we told her we’d only get them if she would def be doing TB again in the fall..
Are they allowed outside of USSSA tournaments. I thought I read that they weren’t allowed some other places?

I think she tried on Mizuno or Under Armour. I think she’s wearing UA cleats now..

DD plays both SS and C and I’m worried about people sliding into her. She’s only played a couple of tournaments with girls wearing them and nothing has happened so far ;)

Most of the time once they switch to metal they never want to go back. The only exception I have seen is that some pitchers take longer to adjust and may go back and forth until they feel comfortable.
