Back on the dirt...
I wanted to start a cold weather gear recommendation and reviews thread. Mainly because we got a cold front overnight that dropped temps to the upper 30’s and it was 85 and 75% humidity and our girls were freezing. In Texas we rarely play when its cold but usually there are 2 tourneys every year that is played in ridiculous cold. (Its also misting to add to the dreary weather.).

I am looking for suggestions to keep the girls hands warm while on the field. But if everyone shared what they are doing fo the team in the cold, that might help others on the board.

So lets hear it! What are you using effectively to keep your player/team warm?

DD has the hand warmer packs in her bag for cold Texas days. Uses them in-between innings and has been known to put one in her glove when on the mound. We bought a box of them a couple years ago and still have plenty left. When not pitching and playing the field she will put one in her back pocket and pull it out in-between pitches occasionally.

Feel your pain, we started our Varsity game yesterday in the 80's, rain came, then Tornado sirens went off, teams huddled inside, then more rain, cancelled, and woke to 31 on my Weather Bug. Crazy!

They seem to be leaniate when it is cold. DD has a pullover that you can put both hands in. She sticks a hand warmer in it.

31 sounds nice, we would be wearing shorts.

It's been 0 to 5*F for lows for over a week...and will be for another week. And Highs of 10 to 25*F
We have 10 inches of hard crusted, melted/packed snow on the grounds.
It will be nearly a month before we get onto the fields.

For us, it's Under Amour (long undergarments), top and bottom.
Lighter wool socks, like SmartWool socks. They wear and fit like an athletic sock.
Tighter fitting stocking caps that don't flop around when running
Blankets in the dug-outs.
Hand warmers are nice, but if your hands get too warm, the contrast from using and not using them is somethimes a little too much. Plus when using Hand warmers for longer periods of time, your hands get a damp feeling to them, ..and if that happens it just makes it worse.
The best thing for hands is big choppers/mittens that come up to the middle of your forearm.....no, you DO NOT use them while on the field, only when sitting. You can sparingly use Hand Warmers in them.
You can also use those tube hand warmers like football players use, that fit around your waist.
But...you do not want to get your hands too warm.

ETA: The pants and shirts they wear are called: Under Armour Cold Gear long sleeve Mock and Pants

You see it at football games and have seen heaters in dugouts in softball games, I am leaning towards that is a bad idea.

Have pitchers throw strikes to get off the field quick and batters drive it deep so they can keep warm running around the bases.

I asked if he wanted the girls to have it by the dug out.
He responded no way.

Brought it over to the Moms who came out of their cars to watch practice 14U.

They like it!

The HotHands hand warmers are excellent, but here's a trick: Open them at home (or in the car if it's a longer drive). Get them warmed up beforehand. The heat lasts a few hours so you don't have to worry about them losing effectiveness by the time the game starts.

For some reason, they just don't seem to get warm enough if you open them out in the cold. Not sure if it's because cold hands keep them from getting as warm as possible or what, but when I open them at home, they get hot and stay hot (just keep them in your pockets) for a while.

The Underarmor for the players shouldn’t usually be the titanium lined stuff. Gets too hot if you are playing.
