My husband catches for my 14yo dd at lessons. He's had & used the same catcher's mitt for 5 years. I've researched and sent him all kinds of new glove suggestions. He's cheap and won't spend the money ! lol

So after every lesson he just complains about his hand.. & complains & complains.. instead of making the dang purchase.

MADDENING.

Last night he shows me a huge bruise and swelling. On the bone/"place on the hand" there below the pointer finger. It's a pretty big one and I just laughhhhhhhhhhh.

Anyway- he has come to his senses now... ha ! But it is to ask what to purchase/buy to put UNDER his current old, pathetic excuse of a broken glove to cushion it right there in that particular spot (the bone/"place on the hand" there below the pointer finger).... ugh... JUST BUY A NEW GLOVE!

Any suggestions for a catcher's aid for under the glove to aid in that spot?

TIA! So much

If there is no padding left in the glove or that the leather is just so wore out, wearing a batting glove or something isn't gonna do much.

Get a new glove or stop complaining...pretty cut and dry :)

And this person ^^^^^^^ right above me is a glove guru and can prob help...haha

Yeah, a new glove:rolleyes:, tell squeaky to put a crowbar in his wallet and buy a new mitt, or just keep complaining!
ANNASDAD says you are a glove guru. Its finally time for me to get a replacement glove, I catch my 13 yo DDs pitching practice usually 4 days a week. I am willing to use a crowbar on my wallet, just not a lot in there. Anything in particular you suggest. I was going to head to our local used sporting good equipment this Sunday.

I always throw out the same three that I know work.....Vinci, several Vinci models that will work great for you, Drakemir here can help you with that. The All-Star CMW3000, that's the mitt I'm using now, great mitt! And the Rawlings Liberty Advanced line. Definitely not a glove guru, cause I know some glove gurus........just a dad who loves great leather!

stemple, the area you're talking about, bruising under his index finger, that's nothing. Wait until he takes a few thumb stingers and shots to that nerve, they don't heal too quickly! I bet he'll buy a mitt then......maybe not?

I'll second the All-Star CMW3000. At $150, it's a bargain and I'm "cheap" as well. I'm using it to catch softballs and baseballs. I can't argue with the other two gloves Annasdad recommended either. He knows his gloves.

So Cal
ANNASDAD - as usual - is spot on with his recommendations.

Last week, I had a chance to spend some time with a brand new Rawlings Liberty Advanced (breaking it in for a friend's DD). It's a very good mitt. Nice leather, very good padding, and feels good on the hand. It's not Vinci-level palm padding, or All-Star CMW3000-level thumb protection, but it certainly deserves to be in the same conversation. However, these mitts we're talking about aren't cheap. Good hand protection in the under-$100 category is a tough order to fill.

Move the pointer finger into the middle finger slot on the glove and he can avoid quite a lot of the numbness in that finger.
