These threads have got me looking and f****** s***, Rawlings doesn't do a custom in anything bigger than 13"

I was all ready to do one fancy azz, nice glove...haha

Contact Bart at Glovesmith, do a USA custom in Duratan wheat leather!! And he'll do anything you want done and these are lifers, you'll be able to hand this one down when your knees get old:p

***Core, the reason Glovesmith's are so great, on the customs they'll use the same leather for the palm liner and finger stalls as the shell back and pocket. Right now they're using Japanese tanned leather, but they're bricks!! Probably as close to old USA Horween Rawlings as you're going to get!

Yeahhhh...but I gotta stay Rawlings folks :)

Yep, on the builder, the 13" Pro3030 and the ProJD0 in conventional back are it. Do you want a conventional back or a Fast Back? And I assume since you want a glove larger than 13"......you play outfield? Just like two days ago Don Morton's released four new exclusives and two of them are 12.75" outfield models, and everyone has been screaming for them to release an outfield model in tan Horween forever, well they're here!

Looks like Morton's has convinced Rawlings to go back with dry Horween, which is the good stuff! These gloves are stiffer than a young unmarried pastor is his last year of seminary school:cool: Core, take a look at the new Pro303 with an H-web and the new remake Pro-T with a six-finger American style trap web. Good stuff!

Probably the best leather ever used to make a ball glove! Comes from the Horween tannery in Chicago, IL. Of course there's a lot of history here that I'm sure I could mess up, but Horween leather was made famous by Bob Clevenhagen who ran the SLCS (St. Louis custom shop) for Rawlings back in the day, he's the man who's responsible for most of Rawlings famous patterns like the Pro1000, and tons more! He's the guy who made all the brick hard Horween gloves for all the big name superstars in the majors who had a Rawlings contract!

But to your question, dry Horween is just that, hardly any oil used in the tanning process to produce a really hard, really stiff glove that in some cases people have claimed some of those old custom Rawlings took a solid year to break in!! I have one Don Morton Horween Rawlings, a Pro12TC, and the leather is unlike any other glove I own. It develops odd little discolorations and small stains and has a look and character all it's own. But in the end, it's HARD and STIFF leather which creates a different sound and feel when catching a ball.

Even though Morton's has got Rawlings to release some new exclusives in dry Horween, it still won't be nowhere near the Horween leather that Bob used in the 70's and 80's, cow hides are just different today then back then, so say some of the real glove historians and experts! Core, those Don Morton exclusives are pretty special gloves if you like that old school tan leather look, with split gray welting and Vegas gold stitching and embroidery. It's like ordering a custom Rawlings that you can have in 2 or 3 days!

My Pro12TC from Morton's is dry Horween from either 2013 or 14? That was the last batch, the most recent were oiled Horween, not the Dual Core crap, but still really nice leather, this newest batch of exclusives in dry Horween is the first time they've had that leather since I bought my Pro12TC, so roughly 5 years? So there's your Rawlings, Horween tannery, Bob Clevenhagen, SLCS, history lesson for the day:cool:

Here ya go Core, just playing around a little. Still had to throw some old school touches in there, tan laces & binding and Vegas gold stitching, gray split welting, can't help myself! What I do like about the "Y" web is you get the extra "R" logo. The JD pattern is as deep as a 5 gallon bucket! This was a 13" JD0 model I mocked up.

What do you think of a glove like that? Is that a 13"?

I did mock one up very close. It was all Carolina with Navy web/laces. And I like having the index finger pad outside and little stuff like that

Yes, the JD0 is a 13". The "JD" pattern is really a baseball glove on the builder, but that pattern actually started life as a softball glove, it came from the Rawlings "SG" line which was originally billed as a softball glove. Core, this model is very deep and very wide, and I would say it's a pattern that's best used (TIP) two in the pinkie. Finger pads are a personal thing, I just traded away a NP6 that had one, I personally don't like them, but I don't hate them either. They already come on all retail "NP" models like my NP6, but my next custom will *probably* be a 12.25" NP7, it will not have a finger pad on it!
