HS tryouts start this week and it looks like the weather will be cold. High 40’s. So what do you guys think? Use an older composite?

Nope. Use her best bat that she is most confident with. Who cares about the bat.

Good luck.

Screw It, use the composite. We were at the John Cropp Classic today In Lexington Kentucky. The high was In the lower 50s. All of the teams of course were using their normal bats, LS, Demarini and Rawlings. All teams were absolutely tattooing the ball......no failures. If It does, that Is what the warranty Is for. Worse case scenario, you can always buy another bat, but you cant buy confidence and you cant buy another first impression.

These responses remind me of a guy who's buddies talk him into a bar fight. When you get up off of the floor, you often times find out you are all alone.

Here are a couple of questions I have before you get up swinging (pun intended):
1.) If the bat breaks, do you have a viable option for replacing. It may void the warranty (assuming it still has one has one).
2.) Do you feel confident your child can make the team without her best bet (around here, most travel programs are far better than most high school teams)?

YES/NO = Seems like a good risk.
YES/YES = Maybe. Even if it can be replaced, if the bat is broken in and feels comfortable, it is still a hassle to replace a bat.
NO/YES = No way. Nothing to be gained. The worse thing that happens is, your kid makes the team and hits better on game day than tryouts.
NO/NO = Depends on if you are a gambler and find yourself on the lucky side of the draw. If you think the bat is the difference, maybe. But that's a stressful way to play a game.

She uses her Ghost. Still under warranty so I’m going to say “have at it”. She also uses a Xeno, no warranty. I know it’s silly but she loves that Ghost. I honestly didn’t realize it was still under warranty but it is.

Poptime, I think that’s a good call. What you have to gain is more than you have to lose.

Josh- you are a thinking man no doubt and I often go through a flow chart approach to figure stuff out too. Some situations call for breaking eggs with hammers. I wouldn’t take any chances with something as important as this.

I think the danger here is as a parent you THINK you know how your player sizes up but you just never know what the evaluator is thinking or if they may even be looking for a reason to support another conclusion. That always worries me.
