Right Here For Now
Wish I could get my hands on a 32/21 Demarini CF8 (For a decent proce). DD had a 31/20 version a couple of years ago and it was hot as hell. She loved that bat. She now had a 31/21 CF9, not same performance as the CF8.

With modern day bats and the new tech involved, usually when you add length and/or weight, and the new bat isn't as hot as the last one, it's mechanics and not the bat itself. Even though the CF9 is old tech as compared to the Ghost, it has more tweaks than the CF8 which means it'll be a hotter bat a majority of the time than the CF8. This isn't always the case because of minute manufacturing flaws but, that said, 9 out of 10 times, it's the Indian and not the arrow.

Same indian.. different arrow.. and I tested and concur as well. In my experience the CF9 isn't as hot as the CF8. The CF9 we have is a very good bat, but not as hot as CF8.. of course one is 31/21 and the other is 31/20. Just because technology is newer, doesn't mean it's better, or in this case hotter. Take for example what others have said about the CFX...actually you are one of the people on here who said the CFX isn't as hot as the CF9.. CFX is newer technology.

Actually, the CFX is the same technology as the CF7 which is old tech compared to the new tech of the Ghost or even the Legit2. Even the Legit2, as advanced as it is under the Rawlings name, is old tech. That's why, in case you missed it, they're coming out with all new tech this year. Rawlings tried an entirely new design with the Legit2 (Quatro) and it's a great bat. They've tweaked it every year and made it better each year. So, if a hitter that used to swing a 2016 Quatro at a drop eleven (not that they offered one but if they did) and moved up to a drop 10 2018 Quatro with no appreciable difference, I'd say the same thing. It's mechanics.

Don't get me wrong. There are definitely duds out there. Most of the CFX's are that way because Demarini tried to increase endurance. With the old tech they have, they have done so at the expense of performance. You have to understand, it's a give and take at this point in bats. In order to increase performance, bat manufacturers under the old tech have had to thin down the materials used in the manufacturing process. This allowed the bats to have greater trampoline effect and make it so they were hot right out of the wrapper. The thinner materials allowed performance to increase but at the expense of endurance. Thicker materials allow the bats to last longer. No matter what, the materials themselves only have so many 'flexes' before they fail.

The CFX tried to increase the bat walls durability with a slightly different formulation of the composite to increase endurance. For them, for the most part, this was a non-starter. However, the CF9 is the old formulation and has been tweaked as far as it could go under the old tech and old formulation. Thus, more than likely, it's the indian with poor mechanics as opposed to the arrow 9 out of 10 times. Again, you may have ended up with a dud. I know many that have. But not many enough to say that it's the bats fault.

Also, there are bats out there that are the best choice for some while not others. I have seen posts on here that swear by the CFX. I, personally, haven't found one that I've talked to. All of them have been trying to dump them ASAP. Does that mean that the CFX is ineffectual with all people? Of course not. That doesn't mean that the top tier hitters can't use it to it's fullest potential. The same is true for the LS PXT. Few have found this bat to be beneficial to their DD's and most people are looking to dump them. Maybe the CF9 isn't the bat for her for whatever reason. However, considering that it's the same tech as the CF8, the same materials, same formulation of those materials but tweaked better to appeal to all batters, I would have to assume it's the indian and the mechanics are failing to take advantage of the tweaks as opposed to the bat.

ETA: Ask EricF about his CF6 Sprite. It was a drop 11 and one of the hottest bats out at the time. His was a dud. Again, I'm not saying you don't have one, just that it's uncommon IME.

I am not the only one who is claiming that the CF8 drop 11 was hotter than CF9 drop 11... I guess humans haven't evolved to the point necessary to take advantage of those tweaks, lol... or maybe it isn't as hot because of those tweaks. It wouldn't be the first time a bat made with the same materials, same process, but tweaked for better performance ended up being an inferior model. Newer doesn't always mean better.

Now in our case I am comparing a CF8 drop 11, to a CF9 drop 10.. the CF8 was hotter and that's a fact based on my daughters and my own test swings. I've heard that the drop 11 was made with less materials, thinner barrel walls. Maybe this is the reason why the CF8 drop 11 was hotter than the current CF9 drop 10 we have

We have a CF8 slapper 32/22 in our team bag and the girls fight over it at practice - even though no one is slapping.. they love the pop on that bat...
