Was it used in winter months at all prior to it cracking in July? Not questioning the time/location. Just trying to get some background. Mainly b/c I just got the ghost for my DD, so I’m trying to figure out what conditions caused others to crack so as to try and avoid it. If people honestly say they only used it in temps above 70, never hit in the cage with it, never never hit baseballs or tc balls with it, never tapped the dirt off cleats with it, etc, and it still cracked....

It was bought in July and cracked the next day. Coach used it to warm up the outfielders. He dropped it on the dirt after hitting, in a normal fashion. We suspect there were rocks and the rock must have hit the bat perfectly (to crack it). He was the first one to use the bat. It didn't get used in a cage. DD didn't hit her cleats with it. This might have been a one-off unfortunate incident.

Be advised as well, these new bats are not made for big guys to hack with...especially 32 and 33 or smaller bats. There is some flex at the connection point...when you have a bigger, more powerful guy
taking hacks...it will flex more than usual and sometimes the connection may not hold up. I know I would never swing somebodys fastpitch bat. Now, the Drop 8s...little diff.

I doubt the rock did anything to the bat, it was prob giving way before that

You can tell its not paint there...you can look at the direction of the crack. Also, you can see white coming up...which is composite.

Now if you look further up the pic, that's paint
The young lady using the bat is a beast. That bat has seen a huge number of swings, as the handle shows. They were saying she hit over .900 in 7 games in Vegas last weekend. I don't know if it is true with the ghost, but I had heard that drop 8 bats are more durable. Core, the crack is why I texted you about what weights you can get. I'll let you know if her mom decides to buy another.

The bat has to be somewhat durable, she swings a 34 drop 3 while playing fall baseball. So power is not an issue.

Thank you sir...but I don't think other drops are more/less durable than any other bat. Just far less people swing the drop 8's so you wont see too many around.

Appreciate that side of a story :)

This Is why we have a Rocketech In our bag, a gift from a friend of my wifes that used to play. I like to think YOCOACH would be proud.

iddave, DD beat up her Ghost throughout all fall ball (14u). Got to thinking the thing is indestructible. Put a ton of swings on the bat. During the offseason lessons, she cracked the Ghost hitting off faster pitching (~57-58 mph). Easton customer service was great, and we got a new one back in decent time over the holidays. The first day of use with her new bat, she tore some of the rubber off of the CXN between the barrel and the handle. Not sure whether it will pass inspection. While DD loves the bat, she is starting to question whether the bat is worth the additional hassle. As a result, we've been trying out other bats (also because we need a bat for NSA).

Core and Easton were great in working with us! I'm worried that the Ghost is fragile as well.

DD broke another bat the other day. This time it was our hitting coach's CF7 33/23. To be honest, the CF7 had seen a lot of action as a cage bat, but it got me to investigating. On our team, we have a very wide distribution of bats. 3 are swinging xenos one is swinging an LXT. One is swinging a CFX balanced, two are swinging CF8 balanced bats. One is swing a CF5 drop 11 (that thing is hot and getting hotter! too bad it is short). One is swinging a CF7 slapper (that thing is hot too!) Two are swing Easton Makos. DD is swinging a Ghost.

Two of the girls are swinging DeMarini's because they broke their Louisville Slugger bats. One is swinging a Xeno because she broke her DeMarini. The bats they spoke of broke, not necessarily from improper use, but mostly because they were being used during colder months. Whether it was playing a tournament in the upper 40's/Low 50s, or practicing with softballs that were below 50 degrees, or they were swing a cold bat, temperature played a major role in their demise. None of them broke in the summer months. Realizing now that all makes/models of composite bats are fragile during the colder months. Nowadays, during this off-season we do the following:
1. Players keep bats indoors in between practices
2. Coaches keep buckets of balls indoors in between practices
3. Encourage players to use backup bats if possible
4. Try to ensure indoor facility temperature is above 60 degrees

BTW, no one on DD's team is letting her borrow their bat anymore for some reason. And unfortunately our schedule came out and is NSA/USSSA heavy.

Reminds me that last summer the second player on dd’s team to convert to Ghost in June was because she broke a “for real” white and purple Stealth, (not a Retro). They fell like dominoes after that, lol.
