Upon the recommendation of this forum I bought a Lizard Skin 1.1 to regrip by DD's LXT. When I took worn grip off I noticed a clear tape under the grip. It could have just separated from the grip but it looks like something different. It is pretty rough but in general I think it is a bad idea to regrip over other tape. It assume it needs to come off before the Lizard Skin goes on. I just didn't know if perhaps it is something that was put on the bat so the grip would better adhear to the composite handle. I have re-gripped bats before but never a fancy high end composite bat.

It's nothing more than two-sided tape that adheres the grip to the bat. It's used on all grips on all bats whether metal or composite. Maybe someone else has a better suggestion but I typically take Goo-Gone to it and a razor blade. Don't use Goof-Off or lighter fluid because it will damage/weaken the composites even though it may not show it at the time. It's a real PITA but it needs to be done.

That said, I've often re-gripped over the old tape once I've gotten all the boogers off without issue for many years.

After removing it from a couple bats years ago, I started leaving it on. Really not worth the hassle. Leaving it on has never affected the new grip sticking so far.

It all depends. I try to get what I can off and as long as its smooth, can just grip over whats left.
The older the bat, the harder it is to get off.

I forget who had it, but there was a bat manufacturer that used some thicker, annoying double tape
and you HAD to get it off to regrip because it was rough and crinkley. But I think that has stopped because
I don't remember seeing it for a while.

Speaking of regriping the LXT has anyone had issues with the plastic cover that fills the neck to the barrel part of the bats. I used gorilla glue and sucker keeps ungluing.

lightly sand the gel-coat/paint area your trying to glue it to with an extremely fine sandpaper like a 400 grit. 200's fine if you cant find it readily enough although any auto parts store or marine store should carry it. Then I would use a flexible adhesive such as 3M 5200 marine adhesive/sealant. I've had very good luck doing this in the past.

I regripped it using the two dot overlap method and it looks great. I surprised myself. I got most but not all of the adhesive off.
