Definitely chips..... my DD likes to hit the dirt out of her metal cleats with her bat. There is hardly any paint left on it

Not cracks. Looks like chips and scratches from cleats. Tossing bats back to the dugout on brick dust fields can cause chips and scratches too.

My vote is paint chips as well. My DDs old lxt had similar marks from being tossed around the field and dugout
