DD is a senior in high school. She pitches and plays 3b. She is considering playing in college and has some possibilities. Some are looking at her primarily as a pitcher. One in particular wants her to play 3b. They seem more interested in her bat than her pitching. She has talked about getting a custom glove. DW and I would like to make that happen. So I am looking for some advice and some options. But I want to make sure it is a glove that would work for both of her fielding positions, and something that could last her through college. Thanks in advance.

Go to the Rawlings custom builder and play around. I'm sure she's a great defensive pitcher if she's being looked at as a 3B, my DD is in the same exact situation as yours. She's using a 12" Rawlings Pro206 baseball glove now after using customs Vinci's since 12U.

Some people look at gloves for those two positions as needing two entirely different gloves, I think a 3B glove needs to be a 1/4" to a 1/2" larger than say a SS's glove with a 3B having a lot of just pure instinct & reaction catches while a SS generally has a little more time to "play" a ball.

I see a pitchers glove as something to use as protection as well as using it to field her position, I've seen MANY girls use the back of their glove to just knock a line drive down when it was so fast they couldn't actually get their glove open to catch that line drive! In those cases, they're very glad they had that oversize trashcan on their hand!

If you go to the Rawlings builder, a couple of sizes/models to look at are:

12" the Pro206 and the NP6.
12.25" the Pro207.
And in 12.5" the Pro208

Unless she has her heart set on a velcro glove, start off with the Heart of the Hide baseball icon.

Thank you for the link to Rawlings. I hadn't thought about them. DD has a Wilson now that she loves but had talked about Vinci. I will have her look at this as well.

Haven’t thought about a Rawlings?? Don’t worry FP, if you hang out here any length of time......you’ll end up with a Vinci! Happens to almost all of us.

Vinci will never have the insane options of some of the other larger glove makers have - but the quality is top notch - dollar per dollar it's the best value you find for a custom made glove. If you would like a basic quote for one let me know.

If your DD plays in college there is a chance the team will provide her a glove. Might want to check with the schools she is considering before you spend a lot of money on a custom glove that she will only use one season. That said, hard to go wrong with a Vinvi BV-1929L. Shoot Drakemir a PM and see is he can hook you up, but be prepared for 4-6 weeks of break-in before it is game ready.

FP26, did you buy your DD a new glove yet?

No. She is still considering some options. She has had a Wilson for several years and has loved it (simply time for a new one). She has built several custom Wilson's but seems to change the options every other day. Lol!. She had not looked at Vinci before but liked their options as well. No one on her team has a Vinci so she is unfamiliar with them. She has also been looking at the Rawlings per your advice. She doesn't seem to be in a hurry right now, so I am not going to push her. I recently re-laced her Wilson for her, so it is still very useable.

JAD - Thanks for the advice. I had not thought of that. She is still considering her options in regards to college softball. She has narrowed it down to 3 schools at this point, all showing varying levels of interest. We will see what happens, but that is definitely something we should check on. Thanks!
