Well it appears my daughter’s Wilson Promotion shin’s have seen better days. She’s been wearing them for 3 years so I haven’t really been in the market for new gear. What’s good out there now?

I'm looking forward to responses on this one. I bought an extra pair of Promotion shins when I heard they weren't making them anymore (DD likes them that much).

It looks like Santa is bringing dd11 an Easton Prowess P2 set to try. I️ figure I️ won’t cry too much about spending just $200 for her to outgrow them in a year or two.

Right Here For Now
Without a doubt in my mind, the three best sets out there right now are the Schutt S3 series, the All-Star Pro series for the bigger girls and the Vela series for the smaller ones and the Diamond iX5 series. Schutt slightly edges out All-Star and Diamond due to the reduced weight in every aspect. They've skinnied down the shin guard "spines" to reduce weight while not giving up structural integrity and this allows the padding to form fit the calf muscles of most catchers better since it's softer and will rap around better. It also allows the catchers with bigger calves such as my DD to still maintain good protection and have them still form-fit. Their Air-Maxx helmets incorporate their advanced padding technology put in their football helmets and are actually cooler than many others and their Air-Maxx chest protectors offer superior protection as well as being cooler also. That said, All-Star and Diamond aren't far behind other than the weight difference. Quality and longevity they will all be mostly equal.

I'm checking about G3 series is quite the latest K-Pad that has been added to the knee area. I'm also looking about Schutt S3 series for my daughter.

I'm interested to hear about the Prowess set. I have never really liked the Easton catching gear very much, but this new line may change my opinion. That said, my DD is currently wearing an Easton M10 helmet and likes the way it fits her. Schutt and All-Star didn't sit right on her head.

Mine is wearing the ix5 shins now and really likes them, had allstar prior. Said that they felt a little heavier but likes the feel much more. Looking at the Prowess chest now, was not happy with her old Easton gear but it was a beginner set.

DD wears ix5 shins and really loves them. When Wilson discontinued their softball gear, I bought a couple extra helmets at an incredible discount. However, I'm intrigued by the Force3 helmet that is really making inroads among MLB catchers and umpires. I'm eagerly awaiting someone on the forum to buy one and provide a review.

Hearing a lot of good things about the Prowess gear. My DD also has a complete set of brand-new Wilson Promotion gear waiting for her current set to break down, so I won't be buying anytime soon. But if I was, Easton would get my money. Jen Schro is offering 25% off through her Facebook page once in a while.
