Well, it's that time again. Three years since my last fielder's glove purchase and I wanted to get some new and improved input.

FYI, DD is a high school junior. While catching is her first position (and probably only position in high school), she will be asked to be a utility player in summer ball this year and needs a new fielding glove as her Liberty Advanced basket web has gone flat. Probably looking at a 12.5"

Since she hopes to play in college, I'm planning to get her a high end glove for the next couple seasons. Looking at the following:

  • Nokona
  • Rawlings
  • Wilson
  • Marucci (any input here is especially appreciated)

Willing to listen to any and all recommendations. Thanks!

Strictly a fastpitch glove? Velcro or no Velcro, or it doesn’t matter?
You say utility, so infield and outfield?
What’s your budget? Are you opposed to a custom?
What size girl is she, what size batting gloves?
Any particular web style she’s fond of? I know you said her Liberty was a basket.

She's an average size. 5'5" and 120 lbs. Where's a medium batting glove. My guess is, when not catching, she will be 70% infield and 30% outfield.

She's not picky about velcro or not or about the web style. Her catcher's mitt is an H-web and her fielders glove is a basket.

Since she's very serious about the game, I don't have a budget. I would prefer not to go custom.

Thanks!

Not sure if you are looking at Vinci - but what you are looking for is just about a perfect fit for a BV1929-L, 12.5 (thought it measures closer to 12.25) Basket web, open back. Will last her through college with proper care easily.

I do have a RHT - Factory Broke-in one in inventory if you are interested in a price - feel free to send me a message.

Also - I won't pretend that I have put my hands on anywheres near as many gloves as Annasdad - he knows his gloves extremely well!

That opens up a world of options, no doubt everyone here knows I love Rawlings but I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't mention the new Mizuno Pro Select series! They're getting glowing reviews, supposed to be really stiff and have fantastic leather! I haven't held one yet, I've read the 12.75" measures right at 12.5" just like the Global Elite GGE70. The Pro Select moved ahead of the Global Elite series but of course is still well below the $600 Pro Limited Edition Mizuno's.
Here yo go:

Edit:
Here's a Mizuno Pro, one notch above the Pro select but still below the Pro Limited series. The Pro model price wise is up there with the Pro Preferred and the A2K's. The stand out thing about the Pro line is the palm liner is made with the same shell leather, a huge plus as far as durability and longevity goes!! This is not a custom and is readily available.

As Drakemir said above the Vinci BV1929 is about as good a utility glove as you can get from Vinci. I'm personally not a fan of baskets, but that's just me. But the way baskets are continuously laced around the entire web, index to thumb, they do add structure to a glove! But they're just so ugly:p Have Drakemir make you a 1929 with an H-web!

Hey Grogger, I mocked up two different customs on the Rawlings builder. These are both Heart of the Hide model 3028. One is done in all classic j-tan leather, tan shell, tan web, tan laces, Vegas gold stitching, Vegas gold embroidery, gray split welting. A classic looking Rawlings from the 70's and 80's. The other is done in dry black j-tan leather with a tan web. The 302 model comes in two sizes, the 3028 is a 12.5" and the 3029 is a 12.75" The 3028 is a great utility glove and the 302 pattern has a smaller/snugger hand stall and palm than the Rawlings 303 pattern.

Thanks Grogger, my DD is also a junior. She’s been using custom Vinci’s since first year 12U, she just recently changed to a 12” Pro206-6CB Heart of the Hide and she loves it. Definitely not a knock on Vinci at all, she loves her Vinci’s but this Rawlings just appealed to her and is working great.

Sounds like your DD has put in the work, I like your original post, sounds like she deserves a high end glove! What brand/model catchers mitt does she use?
